Media Wonderboy Didn't Get His Show Money

Because it is punishment. Fight camps aren't free and fighters have to pay out of pocket to fund them. He basically paid for a fight camp and got nothing out of it which is fucked up considering he held up his end of the bargain while his opponent did not. Why should Pereira be rewarded for missing weight? Cause that's what it would have been if WB agreed to fight him anyway. Why should Pereira still get to get paid when he didn't hold up his end? Fuck that. Especially when WB wasn't going to get paid extra to do it. The amount of people gas lightning WB in this thread is disgusting.

Yes but the fight wasn't cancelled on his behalf.

HEEEE cancelled it.

Fights can and do go ahead if fighters miss weight. The fighter who missed weight is just penalised for that with their purse - THAT is the punishment.

Wonderboy decided he's not happy with that so refused to go ahead with the fight... fine, but then he doesn't get paid, because regardless of his reason... HEEEE is refusing to fight, so he isn't showing!

The fight could have/should have still went ahead! He chose not to!

Pereira should get paid if he still wants to go ahead with fighting, which he did. He missed weight. And would have been penalised for that. Wonderboy decided to take it into his own hands and that he's not happy with that BUT HE KNEW THAT GOING IN!!! That issss the punishment for missing weight. Not the fight being cancelled! Heeeee did that.

So he's not being punished. He decided not to show. Therefore why should he be paid show money! Showing = in the Octagon. Not showing up and hitting weight. He refused to fight after that, his choice, his decision, his taking his own money out of his hands. Done.

And of course you guys are continuing to blame WB instead of the guy that missed.

Can't we blame both???

He should have made weight.

However, It seems pretty soft of WonderBread to turn the fight down over 2 pounds. He would've got paid, got 20% of Michels purse, and potentially a win bonus and/or performance bonus.

He thought he could weasel his way into a free payday and the UFC said nah homie.

Wonderboy accepted the Till fight when he was overweight, and size was a big factor in that fight.

Yet again it's not merely the three pounds he was over. It's the fact that he didn't drai himself finishing or at least trying to finish the cut. didn't notify anyone he was well over when they must have known he was going to miss. He could have tried to set up a 175 cw. Instead he decided to just come in with a huge size advantage ( he has a larger frame than wb, and will be larger after he rehydrates) and without the harsh cut to even things out. he was trying to game the rules and come in with advantages because he failed to honor the contract.

That's pretty unreasonable to expect WB to accept it when he's been screwed by this before.

Such an ignorant take. Done.

Did Dana offer him more to take the fight or was it just the usual penalty from the opponents pay? He is totally within his rights not to fight if he is worried about being unfairly disadvantaged imo.

It's not ignorant, it's informed; the opposite of ignorant. And it's not a take.

It's the fact of reality.

Wonderboy knows the punishment for not missing weight, and that it isn't the fight being called off. So he chose to do that and he chose to sacrifice his purse.

Pretty fucking basic obvious fact and logic. Not a take.

I didn't say I like that fact (not a take), and I didn't say I agree with it. But that's WHAT IT IS. So if Wonderboy wants to change it... or try and change it... fine, I'm all for it. But why are you or anybody acting like he didn't know the current rules and is pretending he's hard done by. He knew refusing to fight = he doesn't get show money, because he fkn cancelled the fight.

Fights aren't cancelled if guys miss weight. Not a fake. A fact.

Dana, I disagree with you on this one. You are behaving like Uncle Scrooge.

UFC! UFC! UFC!

Dana White! Dana White! Dana White!

Somebody please explain to me why Wonderboy would ever get his show money when he:
  • Never made a walk to the Octagon. Making weight isn't showing. Making it to the Octagon itself is.
  • Actively refused to continue fighting Pereira despite the UFC and Pereira wanting to move forward regardless and there's a built in 20% purse incentive to do so
It's not the UFC's fault if he didn't get paid when he literally didn't fulfill his contract.
Many have explained it, learn to read.

I don't believe that one bit. He's gonna get paid for making weight.

Edit: never mind lol. Didn't know he was turning down fights.

LOL at the excuse. Dude was suppose to fight someone and it didnt happen, not his fault. He didnt have to take any other fight that he had no preparations for. Lets face it, Dana abuses his fighters.

Contract was to fight at 170 pounds.

Wonderboy trained and prepared to fight at 170. He did everything he had to do but was never given the opportunity to do the job he agreed to do (fight at 170).

It is not his fault his opponent is not a professional and didn't make weight.

It should not be expected for a fighter to agree to a bait and switch when the other party didn't hold up their end of an agreement.

Ultimately they need to have contracts which stipulate what happens to payment if opponent misses weight and fighter isn't willing to accept the bait and switch.

He refused to fight. He could've fought and said no. I don't blame him and i think the UFC will pay him, but that sets a precedent and fighters will then never accept a fight in those conditions and just rather make money without fighting, we will lose many great fights.

I think they should test the fighter that missed weight for dehydration. If he gave his all and was totally dehydrated and was 2 lbs over, the fight should go on with a penalty, for example he has to stay under a certain limit of weight and under his opponentes weight+purse cut. But if he wasn't really dehydrated and just tried to play the system to gain an advantage fu** him, fight is cancelled and the other guy should receive his show money.

Oh I never said he didn't. Dana definitely does. I just didn't believe it until I heard he turned down replacement fights.
