WMMA Discussion #29

Not sure who I like in Cong vs lipski. Lipski got that experience and normally good striking she could Fernandez her but then I think about how lipski just stood there to get bodied by Cacoeira so there's no reason to think Cong can't do that too.

I really thought Loma was ready to break into the 15 ranking but she looked awful on the weekend then I heard that she with syndicate MMA, so I guess that's why her skills are deteriorating. She needs to get away from there and remember how to do muay Thai.
The other two fights were as expected two Brazilians getting favourable matchups and looking good.

counterpoint: cong could still have the yips. her last fight against noted glaring cage roomba bruna brasil wasn't exactly heartening.

Honestly I think she needs a good boxing coach more than anything. Her standup is basically single style with little variations (yes, she it great at MT, I am aware) but that being said it not only leaves holes - particularly in her defense, but makes her stand-up slightly more predictable. Agree with Syndicate being a bad place for her. It supports none of her strengths and addresses little in the way of her weaknesses.

i think syndicate mma is a recent thing, hadn't seen john wood in her corner before. that said i've kinda softened on syndicate now that jojo and roxy have retired. john wood pops up frequently in fighter's corners, like aljo and merab. maybe syndicate is one of the go-to gyms for fighters working with the PI or hanging out in vegas in general.

...your favorite fighter is Ronda Rousey, you say? What a coincidence, mine too Sydney, mine too. <{1-7}>

This opens space for Kana finally shine ❤️❤️❤️
I'm rooting for Kana but I think she has her most difficult matchup in the first round and probably loses unfortunately. Last tourney she dominated Carmouche for 14:50 then inexplicably got armbarred from guard (by Liz Carmouche!) with just 8 seconds left. Shamefur dispray for a Japanese olympic tier judoka!

Unlike @leto1776 we consider Jena Bishop a very legit opponent round here so I fear for Kana's chances of glory

My hope relies heavily on the fact Bishop is 39, making her past her prime. Even though Kana is 35 (which makes her beyond the prime age of MMA, which is 34), she seems to have something on her still.
My hope is that she learned the full control technique now (which had its flaws when the time reached 14:50).

I feel like all we get anymore are non ranked fights, with no chance for anyone to move into the rankings
given how prospects have been panning out (yasmin/iasmin) maybe they're trying to give them a bit more experience before sticking a number on them (looking squarely at lucindo here). dee gomes' hype has slowed recently and elise reed is a good striker to bang with and the fight will hopefully build some excitemnt for both.
