Signings/Scouting WMMA Discussion #29

Actually…
I created a fictional situation where she could be free of pfl:
Dakota injuries herself nastily…
Such a nasty injury that would take her out for like… 2 ~ 3 years (miriam nakamoto level of nastyness).
With that situation, pfl decides to offer her contract in a trade type situation for… idk… some former champion that could suit a title aspiration there while being a face for the company (like grasso or rose, Idk)
Ofc this is all fictional stuff with literally 0 chance of happening

Nice to see jj get a number for once I don't know if she can hold it but she's never been an embarrassment to the sport..

Last weekend was a good night for WMMA 2 big subs in exciting fights from non contenders.
Bit disappointed Molly quit was she talking about it before the fight? Feel bad Nunes pulled out robbing her of a retirement win. Never thought she was good but she was always so scrappy and alot of women don't bring that.

Bit disappointed Molly quit was she talking about it before the fight? Feel bad Nunes pulled out robbing her of a retirement win. Never thought she was good but she was always so scrappy and alot of women don't bring that.

i don't think so, otherwise ufc brass would have given her a clip montage. i think anik mentioned something about molly opening a new restaurant recently but that's it.

from: https://mmajunkie.usatoday.com/2025/03/ufc-london-molly-mccann-comments-retirement-emotional

“When I broke my leg last year, it took me everything to get back, and it was really hard for my body to – I’m not a spring chicken,” McCann told TNT Sports. “I gave my everything and everything kept breaking in the camp. Things were going wrong. I just gave the best account of myself and being in there, I felt fine. I was pumped. But to be outmanuvered in the first round, I’m not good enough to be in there, and that is OK.

“I’m not here to make up the numbers. I’m here to win, and if I’m not winning, and I fight like that, I don’t deserve to wear the gloves, in my opinion. This is the best of the best in the world, and it doesn’t matter what I’ve done in my past and where I’ve taken this sport. You don’t live off your past performances, you live off your current ones, and I’m not good enough right now.”

this matchup is awesome but no way i. nunes stays on the roster if she loses this one 😭

Apparently, she signed another contract:

This doesn't mean she's secured to fight, since they have a clausule where they can end contracts when they lose.

loopy looked good (on the ground) - it was a gritty, entertaining fight to watch :)
polastri's striking was fun to watch too, looking forward to seeing more of her in the future
Interesting I didn't think she looked good on the ground, and I seen others in the pbp talking about her ground game needing work. Great takedowns there and her boxing won her 2 rounds to defend her ranking.
Almost every takedown she wasn't able to advance, threatening no subs, not landing gnp while eating harder bottom elbows. Strategy wise Loopy was smart to let Polastri up to score another td multiple times because she was doing so little on top.
Great win for loopy she needed to defend her ranking and Polastri I still think will break into the 15 soon probably as a few girls age out or retire.

Her ground game does need some work but I thought she made some in-fight adjustments like going for side control instead of full guard to avoid those elbows. But the fact that she wrestled in the first place showed improvement. Thats been the knock on her, she didn't fight to her strengths. She tried to kickbox Hill for instance. So seeing a wrestle heavy approach was a good thing. I'm pretty sure she had one of her sisters in her corner. You probably know that two of her sisters wrestle for the Canadian national team. Anyway, win or lose, she's always fun to watch.
