145 has jack shit for talent. It begins and ends there. So bad that your "exclusive" 145 lbs. fighters have a better record facing each other than they do women who fight at 135. Propping up a division so bad they lose to smaller women should never be a sound marketing plan.

I do expect the UFC to put on quality fights and that is not what you get with 145.

This quote was the main reason why I changed my mind from adding 105 to 145 to having 105 replace 145. The division is just too bad. That is especially true for the real 145ers. I could make an exception if their fights were exciting but that has definitely not been the case.

I'm not buying Aspen Ladd's story. On one hand you have someone like Holly Holm, who has said time and time again that she wants the 135 belt back... Yet she took a fight against Dumont at 145, because there were no options at 135. The UFC allowed Holly (who not only is a better fighter than Ladd, she's also more well known) to fight at 145 if so she wished. So why would they stop a woman that constantly looks like she's about to pass out on the scale from moving up to a healthier weight class? Why would they sign Danyelle Wolf knowing she can't make 135? Why would they offer Zarah Fairn more bouts at 145 when they could easily cut her instead? Why would Perez move up when she has made 135 too?

On the other hand, you have people like Germaine who accepted that she declined the Nunes rematch at 145. When the fighters themselves refuse to compete in a weight class that exists for them, it's when you don't have options. Josiane Nunes is moving up again, and she's not even that large. Stephanie Egger said she'll fight at 145 again if asked to. Chelsea Chandler said she wants to fight at 145 too. Options are there, options HAVE BEEN there.

Have to agree Ladd story just doesn't jive with how everyone else is getting booked. I wouldn't be surprised if she's just trying to rationalize being cut for missing weight so often even the way she words alot of it "it was just understood on both sides I wouldn't have the option of 145" meaning they never had the conversation.

She won via 1st round scarf hold armbar. This IG post claims she was also a boxing champ in Mongolia so while that’s not a huge accomplishment it does tell me she really has been prepping for this MMA transition.


Also saw Michelle Montague moved to 2-0 with another RNC. In the past she said she wanted to drop to 135, so let’s hope she actually does so.

For tonight's fights, I'm rooting for Hughes and slightly for Grasso. I like both Grasso and Araujo, but if Viviane's going to get a title shot, she's approaching "now or never" territory at 35. I don't think either she or Grasso has much chance against Shevchenko, though.
 

Cool little slow-mo video Invicta made like the UFC does for PPVs. Invicta took a little interest dip for me for a good while but I am starting to have more fun watching them than the UFC and other promotions again(I only watch the WMMA fights from them these days). Hopefully they keep it going and they can get back to the early Invicta levels of fun events.

Yeah I’m enjoying Invicta more lately too. The last few cards have been available live for free on YouTube. That’s easier than going through yet another paywall.

ONE FC also puts on great women’s fights. The Friday evening cards on Amazon prime are at an ideal time for viewers in North America. I greatly prefer the ONE approach of making viewing accessible for free to as many viewers as possible.

I have not been taking advantage of ONE's availability, and I need to rectify that. So they have an archive on Prime as well, or is it just live fights?
 
Letita Blot/Mariam Torchinava

Blot won by unanimous decision to win the Hexagone flyweight title. Rough fight. Both fighters were gassed and there was an odd glitch with the clock where it ran from 1:00 down to 0:40 back up to 1:00 and down to 0:43 and then down to 0:29 and the ref. stood them up due to inactivity and then a few seconds later the round was over. Seemed odd.
 
Katharina Dalisda scored a UD win over Mallory Martin at Oktagon 36 today:

They have a bunch of fights uploaded to there so far, but not sure quite how deep it goes
 
Alexa Grasso vs. Viviane Araujo.
Grasso wins the main event by unanimous decision. It was mainly a boxing affair where Grasso edged out most every round. Both fighters threw jabs and one-twos with not many heavy combinations. Grasso exhibited improved takedown defense stuffing around a half dozen attempts and getting up after a couple of them. She threw more leg kicks which helped keep Araujo at bay. Two judges gave Araujo a round while the third judge scored it a shutout. Grasso is 4-0 since moving up to flyweight. Remains to be seen who will challenge Valentina. Fiorot and Chookagian fight next week on the big 280 card.

Piera Rodriguez vs. Sam Hughes.
Piera came out the winner in another UD. She threw the harder shots, in particular some nice uppercuts, and got five or six takedowns. Hughes kept bouncing back up after the takedowns and showed her spirit and cardio in round 3. Piera scored more damage. It was 29-28 on all three judges' scorecards. Piera keeps her undefeated record intact and moves to 2-0 in the UFC.
 
A WMMA fight headlined CAM 14 in Argentina yesterday. The fight was Loly Espinoza vs. Lucía Apdelgarim. I am not familiar with either one of them, but I thought I'd share it you folks as I know some of you are big WMMA fans.
