With his insane cardio, why isnt Cain ripped?

It is exactly because he has insane cardio that he is NOT ripped.

Super-ripped people has nowhere to store energy. Too much muscles burns body fuel too fast. Too much fat on the other hand of course also kills cardio.

Most of the endurance guys you see are either lean (Fitch, Diaz, Bisping, etc) or fit but have small degree of body fat still (Cain, Shields, Sonnen, Fedor, etc).

Super ripped guys (Houston Alexander, Overeem) or too much body fat guys have pretty atrocious cardio.
Glycogen is stored in the muscles and liver, so you are incorrect.

Your cardio and conditioning have absolutely no correlation to your physique. This is ignorant thinking. It's shocking the amount of people on this board that base the fighter off of how well muscled they are (or lack thereof).

Has anyone said that muscles require oxygen and being ripped at Cains size could hinder his cardio.

Sigh... sherdog seem very smart.
The reason Cain is a heavyweight is because of his diet . I dont know him well enough
but many videos showed him eating high calorie food. I am sure he can diet down to 205
or even 170 if he chooses to. BUT why would you prevent yourself from enjoying delicious foods when you can eat whatever you want. And still making a lot of money and be heavyweight champion. the badest man on the planet. IF cain is 170 lb , you would see his six packs. i think cain is similar to powerlifting

I find that cardio actually makes you lose weight, I've lost four pounds from straight cardio. Nick Diaz has amazing cardio too and he isn't very ripped still toned tho, I think genes has a lot to do with it too.

Because he's a HW with a pretty relaxed diet. That doesn't mean his diet is bad though (for an athlete), if it was he wouldn't be known as the fighter it pretty much all time best cardio.

Most people in general are crazy missinformed when it comes to this...

Him being ripped wouldn't mean he has more muscle mass, just far less BF%. You can make that argument for someone like the Reem though.

Cains a big dude, especially compared to the average man. I'm sure he eats like big dude too so that paired with genetics and you have a pretty minimal 6 pack

Your body fat percentage isn't directly correlated to your strength and cardio. Being more "ripped" doesn't necessarily result in an improvement in physical ability; in fact, it can often be detrimental to it. Though, on the other hand, putting on more body fat won't lead to increased performance indefinitely either. Each athlete has some optimal level of body fat, in between "ripped" and "fat", that they should strive towards.

Genes.. Fact- Mexican genes tend to hold quite a bit of fat ( and im not being racist, science shows).. Hence why you've never really heard of a mexican bodybuilder in the Olympia, ect.

Because being ripped and having great cardio don't necessarily come along.

With his insane cardio, why isnt Cain ripped?

As someone already mentioned: Genes.

Plus, Cain loves his food:

He look ripped in his earlier Fights I guess he gained some body fat over his muscles Just like Cormier before

He eats enough calories to retain all his body fat as there is no reason for him to lose it. It also helps being a little heavier vs these big guys

1. Diet
2. Genetics

That said, Cain isn't exactly fat. He might not look like a prime Kevin Randleman, but he has a good amount of muscle mass.

Sriracha on his burritos can do that to you.

And gluten if you ask the crossfit crowd.

Good ole gluten!

Nothing wrong with Sriracha. I use it on a lot of my food, and I have a beautiful body.

Some of the scariest hw's had that same build. Fedor, cain, igor v, cain, .. (hunt and roy) to an extreme. It is bc they don't focus on beach muscles and more on functional strength while not starving themselves to make weight.

Cain too though, right? :icon_chee

People saying genetics, lol.

Seriously, pretty much anyone can get ripped; even you sherdoggers. It's all about exercise and diet. Genetics don't factor into things until you are at the top echelons of bodybuilding or if you're Usain Bolt or something - then you've got an advantage.

Go lift and eat correctly with the intention of getting "ripped" and that's going happen no matter who you are(obviously people's sizes vary, as does their diet and routine). Cain's a fighter, not a bodybuilder and as we all know being the most shredded and muscular guy most of the time isn't going to help you in fighting.

Whatever Cain's doing clearly works best for him in fighting. I doubt he gives two shits about not being the most ripped dude in MMA.
