With his insane cardio, why isnt Cain ripped?

"Strict diet", "insane cardio"....sherdog's and most of the world's idea of how to lose fat -hence, most of them don't.

Calories in, calories out. It's a simple as that, but more difficult to do than it seems. You have to be weighing your food, tracking it. You gotta know your TDEE and figure out how much less from it you want to eat. Most MMA fighters don't do that and losing fat is a hit and miss thing for them.

Generalizing Mexican food as Taco Bell though

Cain gets real tacos... but then again I saw on an old countdown that he was eating Rubio's... close enough I guess. :icon_chee

tacos won't make you fat...floyd mayweather and most people who know a little about nutrition debunk those "junk food" myths. Floyd's out and about in vegas at 2 am eating cheeseburgers and fries in the week or 2 prior to his fights and guess what? He's ripped all year long. Hmm...i wonder why?

Well, yeah you can get muscular and ripped if you eat junk food, then also eat food that has nutritional value to sustain useful body tissue, then burn a shit-ton of calories.

You can get Christian Children's Fund ripped if you eat junk food then run marathons or jump rope all day.

But I'd hardly recommend 'junk food' as the path to a good physique...

I wouldn't recommend it either. But i won't rule it out. If you want to eat it - eat it. The body isn't that pathetic. It's not like when "junk food" goes down your throat that your brain starts saying "oh shit, this is going straight to the thighs". Nah, it breaks down the nutrients of the food like everything else. Junk food magically can't make you gain weight and that's the point i'm trying to get across. A lot of people here think otherwise.

I figured the Taco Bell thing was a joke. I live in Southern California and Taco Bell is considered white people food. Not so much Mexican food.

I won't split hairs with you. You're one of the few people in this thread making some kind of sense.

Not enough p90x.

Its in the genes! I did that p90X for 4 months. Did everything like they told me, of course including the strict no carb low fat diet. And I still wasn't able to get ripped. So yes its the genes!!

lol i hope you're not serious

Very! I was 22 back then so even my age didn't make a difference!

You should know better. You most likely damaged your metabolism as well and gave up and binged afterwards causing great weight gain. Amiright?

It is exactly because he has insane cardio that he is NOT ripped.

Super-ripped people has nowhere to store energy. Too much muscles burns body fuel too fast. Too much fat on the other hand of course also kills cardio.

Most of the endurance guys you see are either lean (Fitch, Diaz, Bisping, etc) or fit but have small degree of body fat still (Cain, Shields, Sonnen, Fedor, etc).

Super ripped guys (Houston Alexander, Overeem) or too much body fat guys have pretty atrocious cardio.

Oh, ok then.

you're stupid because you can't tell a difference between apples and oranges. He pulled a fast one on you.

I claimed Mexicans in America are fatter than Mexicans in Mexico.

He said Mexicans are rated fatter than Americans

Even if he was correct, can you see we're talking apples and oranges?

Give those eyes a rest and fire up that brain :)

Followed a strict diet on a rigid exercise program for 4 months and didn't get results?

I have a real disdain for television marketed exercise shams, but this doesn't add up.

That wasn't your genes buddy. You skimped. Don't mean to be rude, but genes have pretty much nothing to do with how much you can drop your body fat.

Don't really see why Cain would be on a strict diet. I'm sure he's on a diet that includes supplements and getting lots of proteins etc. but there's no reason for him to be on a fat-burning, body-toning type of diet. He probably eats a good amount of fatty foods and it clearly doesn't hurt his ability to perform.

It doesn't seem as if there would be any benefit to Cain cutting 20 pounds and looking the way you want him to look. That fat's probably good for his cardio and his added size is beneficial to his grinding style. It obviously isn't excessive to the point that he's slower or less coordinated because of it.

Being lean doesn't necessarily mean you have great cardio, and having great cardio doesn't necessarily mean you are super lean. Now, most top cardio athletes have some fat storage in them. This helps fuel them during endurance exercise. It's also something that happens when you have a high carb intake in your diet. Something that is very necessary for a cardio athlete. In Cain's case, he's got a bit more fat than the average top cardio athlete. Many other top cardio athletes are much leaner, and some even have six packs fairly regularly. That being said, that little bit of extra fat doesn't necessarily mean it hurts his cardio. My guess is he eats like a champ, and it he works out like one too. The food fuels his workouts, and his workouts keep his fitness levels so high. He doesn't see losing that bit of fat as any sort of advantage other than aesthetically, so he doesn't bother to cut it. Also, it's a bit more weight he can use for his wrestling.
