The first title fight with Volkanovski was already set in stone no matter of the outcome between Makhachev vs Oliveira. The 2nd time wasn’t even Makhachevs fault, it was all Oliveiras idiotic training practices that caused him to lose that title shot and stupid matchmaking by the UFC, Oliveira should have never gotten the rematch anyway and it should’ve been Justin Gaethje. So there was no ducking on Makhachevs end.

Not only that, Khabib completely destroyed everyone. Islam not only got KO'ed, but arguably even lost to a guy in the lower division and went to deep waters with Poirier. Khabib made Poirier look like it was his first fight.

He could win 50 straight, he can never pass Khabib who was just a much better fighter.

There’s being a better fighter and then there’s being a greater fighter. For the simple fact that we’ll never see them in the cage against each other, the argument that Khabib is better will always be more subjective. But if one has higher stats than the other, its objective who is greater.

Also, sure Khabib had an easier time with Poirier. But he also beat him with his biggest weakness. It could be argued that by out striking Poirier (which is his strength), Islam showed a more complete skill set.
