Social Will the government shutdown tomorrow?

"I was poor once. I know what sacrifice is about to ensure the proper aspects of life are taken care of first."

Virtue signaling-

"the public expression of opinions or sentiments intended to demonstrate one's good character or social conscience or the moral correctness of one's position on a particular issue."

{<hhh]
That was simply to assure you I had experience in the topic, to alleviate your likely presumptiveness to any notion of privilege.

It's okay to expect better in all areas.

Trump is directing Hegseth to use various funds to pay the troops. Not the DC bureaucracy

The government has been shut down for almost 2 weeks. I am completely unaffected. Ancedotal to be sure but fuck it.

Let them cook.

Families are going to surfer... but it's one of the few times we have leverage.

They love being on the losing end, oh well.

The dems don't even want to pay essential workers, this wasn't the reopening of the government ..

Just my take, since it's Friday -- I honestly thought something would happens before weeks end...

Public sentiment is cracked all over, it's not even definable at this point -- blame spread almost evenly among congress repubs + dems and prez -- I'm not sure which one looks better/worse in any of it.

Everyone is taking political damage -- almost more like becomes a collective failure rather than a partisan win the longer the shit rolls on. Both chambers could pass a 1 or 2 week clean CR (LITERALLY TOMORROW) to reopen government immediately while resuming targeted negotiations -- and I'm not sure either even fuckin' wants to even do that.

Yea I hear you , the dems will cave before Nov 1st I will bet on that because that's when SNAP money runs out and they can't lose their welfare type base.

But the politicians on the hill are still getting paid right?
How fast would they solve this shit if they also had to work with no pay?
Or since they are not really essential... sitting home with no pay.

This was the language we had in the email sent to the food bank main account email.

SNAP and MFIP food benefits will not be issued for November until the shutdown ends or we receive further guidance from the federal government

It kinda went on with a referral for us, obviously, to expect higher daily turnout starting Monday -- so we are moving a buncha crap around tomorrow. Entire place goes by scheduled appointment to expedite things, and then allow in as many as possible between (based on inventory)... but if filled the 2 weeks out quota with sign ups like.. instantly once the SNAP notice came out. It also looks like there was a decent push to get donations IN -- so that's helpful, but this area man -- it aint possible to cover everyone for any sustained time operating like that. -- Anyways -- I always thought during a shutdown they should have that kinda shit shown on MSM -- not awarding the political fuckers BEHIND the shutdown prizes and giving them credit for all this -- but show the real people donating to drives and making sure that if the shit hits the fan, help can go out as much as possible.

I could give a shit less what party people are from, heh. Gonna be real cold real fuckin' quick here, don't need families n kids struggling without food on top of that. Hopefully something soon -- concessions from both sides, 'cause there's enough stress on people economically as is -- all sides.

Again though, looks like both sides are trying to "save face" on this shit, rather than have the best interest of 'we the people' in mind. Political theater when the rest of America thinks both sides look utteraly stupid on this -- unless ya a diehard party hack -- clinging on to the "win" for "your side" -- you are fucking oblivious to the amount of hardship people face with this uncertainty.

Oh I agree both sides do look stupid, one is withholding the votes demanding more money for things they want. It's not like the GOP can push it through. It's not a good look overall.

LOL you think thier paychecks matter to them.. most of them are already filthy rich, and the ones that aren't are taking $$ from other sources.

I get what you're saying, but I'm still pretty sure if shutdowns meant there would be no paychecks for congress, it wouldn't happen nearly as often.

The shutdown might result in the Republicans winning the governor races in New Jersey and Virginia.
