Will bare knuckle events be banned?

Absolutely correct. The gloves weigh more, and spread the damage out over a greater area, and can actually lead to worse head injuries in some cases by rattling the brain even more than a bare fist would. Bare fists slice you open, and lead to brutal optics, but are not more "deadly" per-se.

That said, RIP Thornton, hope the shady matchmaking comes back to bite BKFC in the ass.
Not really, that padding stops some of the force from being too impactful, I’d rather get hit with a padded glove than bone

Deaths mostly happen in boxing out of all the combat sports. They have the highest number per year and in total. This wouldn't have been fixed with having gloves on. No gloves actually make people not hit as hard because there is less impact space and hands injure easier so you can't throw power shots connecting with bone on bone over and over again like you can with padded gloves. This was a match making issue and a bit of a freak accident. From what I can tell by the comments on here it was from a spinal injury that resulted from the fall. That same fall in mma or boxing would've had the same effect padded gloves or not. Most deaths happen from a huge skill gap difference between the fighters. If you have a KO artist or power puncher, it's not safe to do such a differential in skill in the match making. That's dangerous. It isn't the same as a point fighter that will outpoint them to a decision. Problems like this can be fixed in all combat sports and promotions by having better match making. Get the skill levels as close to being even as possible.
It was an early shot to the jaw though, that isn’t a place that will injure the hand

In theory, sure.

But it's only happened once in the history of MLB baseball. In 1920, before there were batting helmets. Combat sports are obviously many magnitudes more dangerous and likely to lead to death. But of course I don't agree that bare knuckle or any decently regulated combat sport should be banned, it would be crazy for a combat sports fan to take that position.
Why is it bad to dislike a “sport” that intentionally tries to make it a spectacle of low level bloodthirst rather than any sort of display of actual skill?

It shouldn’t but it might. Some white Knight politician is gonna be looking for something to blame and bare knuckle is lie hanging fruit.

Gloves help protect the hands from breakage and the face from cuts. It has a negligible affect on concussive impact. If they’re looking to make a change to make it safer, they could switch to a more forgiving mat.

No but definitely should look into how that fight was allowed. Commission exist in part to ensure lambs don't get fed to lions

The distribution of force is multiplied over a greater surface area, and with more weight, it has been shown to rattle the brain in a much worse fashion. A bare fist weighs less, has a smaller surface area, and is more concentrated, so it tends to beeak the skin easier, but is not as able to rattle the brain.

They obviously wanted a KO for the winner. It ended up being a deadly mismatch.

Never seen anyone take so many KO's, he should of had a backup plan...

He shouldn't have been fighting. If they are going to keep doing terrible matchmaking, I don't really care what happens. It's the equivalent of Rough and Rowdy. Somebody is probably going to die there too. 15-1 guys should be fighting guys of similar skill sets.

No, the last thing we need is more reactionary nonsense in combat sports. We already lost 12-6 elbows, grounded knees and soccer kicks because some stuffed shirts are offended by violence.

6-18 MMA record
11 KO losses
Outweighed by nearly 40 lbs
Opponent 11-1 MMA record
10 KO wins
A few other bareknuckle wins by 1st round KO

They set this man up for death
Yeah this is horrible matchmaking. Fights are suppose to be competitive, at least on paper. They treated that dude as a crash test dummy. I dunno if the guy has any management or coaches, but they should have stepped in and saved him from himself to take a fight with a guy that is a superior fighter in every way.

Some of you in this thread seem to be forgetting that a 58 year old Evander Holyfield fought recently. Athletic Commissions don't give a fuck about fighter safety.

Nothing will happen to BKFC or Bare Knuckle Boxing. Nor should it.

i dont like them in first place too much clinching
