Will bare knuckle events be banned?

There's ton of deaths in combat sports, this isn't something new unfortunately

I wouldn’t necessarily be saddened if it was, I think it’s a pretty stupid sport that found a gimmick in having second rate boxers just box but without gloves.

Just that night they announced they were moving into 4 states they’d never been in before. Because they had just become legal there. I don’t think this will change that. He fell very badly at an angle that the human body is not supposed to. It could happen in a lot of sports, not just combat sports. It is a tragedy, but I don’t think it will change anything. Many sports are inherently dangerous.

Ufc did some shady matchmaking recently with Semelsberger fighting some random guy named Sanos, it was a brutal ko

Let's hope the family is taken care of after losing a loved one.

any sport comes with risks that are unforeseen, but I'm with the rest. The matchmaker goofed on this one and BKB isn't the only combat sport to screw this up. Look no further than the beating Ion gave an overmatch Devin Clarke.

We all love it when the underdog wins but matchmakers and commissions need to do better here.

hard ball move fast
hit your head
you die
In theory, sure.

But it's only happened once in the history of MLB baseball. In 1920, before there were batting helmets. Combat sports are obviously many magnitudes more dangerous and likely to lead to death. But of course I don't agree that bare knuckle or any decently regulated combat sport should be banned, it would be crazy for a combat sports fan to take that position.

It's not the sport you have to worry about but the organization. BKFC might be in hot water

Some of you might remember a young girl dying after a Boxing fight not long ago, she wasnt faceplant like that, the round ended and she didnt attend to her corner, colapsed a few seconds after, the beating she took was bad but not THAT bad, but she went into the fight too soon after getting KO'd, and was on a KO loss streak...just like this guy in BKFC, its the matchmaking what killed them both, yeah the KO was bad, and the faceplant made it even worst, but them getting into a squash match while being on a losing streak by KO is what killed them, not that final blow.

Deaths mostly happen in boxing out of all the combat sports. They have the highest number per year and in total. This wouldn't have been fixed with having gloves on. No gloves actually make people not hit as hard because there is less impact space and hands injure easier so you can't throw power shots connecting with bone on bone over and over again like you can with padded gloves. This was a match making issue and a bit of a freak accident. From what I can tell by the comments on here it was from a spinal injury that resulted from the fall. That same fall in mma or boxing would've had the same effect padded gloves or not. Most deaths happen from a huge skill gap difference between the fighters. If you have a KO artist or power puncher, it's not safe to do such a differential in skill in the match making. That's dangerous. It isn't the same as a point fighter that will outpoint them to a decision. Problems like this can be fixed in all combat sports and promotions by having better match making. Get the skill levels as close to being even as possible.

BKFC will almost certainly be shut down. They'll be sued into Bolivian for letting this happen, as will the athletic commission. To save face, the AC will blame BKFC for making the fight and that will be that. The organization will be banned and likely some states will ban bare-knuckle fights completely.

Bare knuckle, plus in a small ring, take almost all the technique out of the game

It wasn't the lack of gloves that caused it, it was the shady matchmaking.

No gloves makes fighting bloodier, but not more dangerous. You can actually punch a lot harder with gloves.
Absolutely correct. The gloves weigh more, and spread the damage out over a greater area, and can actually lead to worse head injuries in some cases by rattling the brain even more than a bare fist would. Bare fists slice you open, and lead to brutal optics, but are not more "deadly" per-se.

That said, RIP Thornton, hope the shady matchmaking comes back to bite BKFC in the ass.

I’d rather they ban Santos “fighting” Walker than ban BKF.

It can happen on any UFC card. Matchmaking is important, but can still happen. They've been fortunate it hasn't, yet. It will. It happens every year in boxing. It's part of getting hit in the head.

Damn, 11 of 18 losses by KO/TKO. Someone in Mississippi dropped the ball bad letting this happen.
