Will a "Brawler" ever be champ again?

At least Diaz has a better chin, submission game and cardio better then GSP.
KZ has nothing thats better then Aldo's.

To go along with his no TTD, I am sure that will work out great for him vs. GSP.
Cute you think GSP is getting subbed from the bottom.
ha

Diaz having a cardio advantage over GSP is questionable at best. GSP is an athlete... if he wanted to participate in triathalon's I'm sure he could. Look at the pace GSP sets and the energy he exhausts over 5 rounds, and doesn't seem to slow down in the later rounds.

Can't wait to see how Diaz's cardio holds up over 25 mins of getting taken down, controlled and beat up.

One of the problems with Diaz's fighting style is his reliance on his chin holding up and brawling. One of these times... it won't.

Jimi trains with Davis so them two won't fight. Jimi is the p4p hardest hitter in the UFC imo. He touches you you go to sleep nobody will out MMA JbJ for the next 30 years somebody like Manuwa has the best chance of landing that left hook and putting him in intensive care.

You did not say that right?

Struves always improving...

GSP doesn't throw nearly as much strikes as Diaz does, and he can easily from the top.

No.. I meant 30 years as in until the next generation of MMA comes in with more or less super hero's compared to modern day MMA fighters.

George throws his share of significant strikes, son.
More importantly he mixes them up with TDs. Something that he is pretty decent at and will slow down Nicks strike counter in a major way.

You don't see the difference between eating punches with kickboxing gloves versus 4oz MMA gloves?

You make it sound llike GSP just lays there on top, almost like he doesn't do anything.

If GDP does hiss can opener on Diaz he is getting armbared

Mark would do it without big gloves

Old GSP did

Slightly off-topic, but I think you should check out the Swedish LHW prospect, Max Nunes. He's like a more polished and a younger version of Manuwa. Hopefully we'll see him in the UFC.

It's funny that you would say that since Manuwa and Nunes are training partners.

The Shogun that won the belt wasn't a brawler, brawlers don't outpoint someone like Lyoto Machida.

Maybe Diego Sanchez at LW. Let's see how he fairs vs Gomi and a few others. He's a brawler and is a tough fight for anyone at WW or LW.

Not likely, but at some point can ever arrive dat gifted one with extraordinary athleticism, toughness, reflexes, natural balance, etc etc

But again not likely, specially because also the technical guys are ALSO naturally gifted too...

Said that must be said that "be champ" is'nt ever only about reach the status of being the legit contender, sometimes dana's bullshit marketing influence it

So if dat uber gifted brawler get protected and helped by the marketing machine, maybe is'nt impossible: fast run to the title shot, dangerous match ups avoided and so on

Really? I actually had no idea. Both of them employ a very similar style of striking though, so doesn't really surprise me.

What do you think about Nunes? I definitely see major potential in him.

Edit: Here's a link for all the lazy people who cba using Fight Finder: Max Nunes

Seem like no current Brawlers can make it currently and everyone is moving towards being techicle or "Grinders". Last Brawler we had as a champ was Shogun at LHW.

Shogun wasn't a brawler.

He defeated Machida in the rematch with Boxing. And also in the eyes of many defeated Machida in the first fight with Muay Thai.

I don't have much to add really, dangerous Manuwa-esque striking and G&P. Athletic and young. He will make it to the UFC/Bellator one day no doubt. But the classic question marks are there - how will he perform against proficient wrestlers, how hard is his chin and how good his submission defence?

It's possible, he'd need to have excellent sub/tdd & swing like Mike Tyson.
