Why was Cowboy a popular fighter?

Ever seen a boring Cowboy fight? The guy never pulled out of fights. Constantly took late notice fights. Never made excuses.

MMA isnt so much about the champs, there are a million ways to lose.

He appealed to the dude bro douchebag side of MMA.

I'm not cheering for anyone wearing a cowboy hat or coming out to Kid Rock. I appreciate him as a fighter but loathe him as a "character".

What's wrong with wearing a cowboy hat? The Kid Rock part I'm more sympathetic to, but if you're going to discount a fighter because of his walkout song there won't be many left to cheer for.

seriously?

I dont think thats why, jeremy stephens stuck around forever has tons of awards and no one gives a fuck

My theory is that having a stick like wearing a cowboy hat can get you quite far, and Cowboy was pretty handsome when he was younger as well. Casuals easily recognized him as the cowboy hat guy
Having a gimmick like the nickname + the hat, and being handsome definitely played a role. But he was also extremely active - always in viewers' faces - and I wanna say rarely in a boring fight, but I can't even remember a single boring one.

And his win streaks were awesome. That 4 fight win streak in 2016 at WW with nothing but finishes - super fun times. And during UFC's most electrifying year, stepped up when it mattered.

The tale end of his career was kinda sad, but farther time is undefeated. And what he did, he did whit talent and effort and not many guys on the roster can replicate his success.

Why does Donald Trump have a following? Why do people drink Coors Lite?

Thanks for an actual response instead of just insulting people

Ah, I forgot him. I like watching him fight, but he's probably not as popular as Cerrone because he's kind of a dickhead, and not in an entertaining way.

God awful theory.

He was an "anytime, anywhere" type of fighter, won a lot more than he lost, was a bonus machine, and was always in slobber-knockers.
