what keeps striking me as weird is the all or nothing approach they are taking on everything they attempt to do.
Edit- OOOPS forgot a biggie Jan 6th Pardons- We're only going to pardon the non-violent criminals, nah fuck it we just pardoned them all. Not we're going to go through this and identify the dangerous violent people and leave them in jail for the safety of our capitol police officers is sacrosanct
Mass deportation "we'll throw everyone out" Not let's identify the top 10,000 worst criminals or Let's try this in 1 or 2 border states and see if it has a positive effect there.
Stopping all government funding "oops we didn't mean to stop it all and starve old people and such so we'll start it ALL back up" I imagine there is some government funding that definitely should be stopped. Let's target the top 10 wasteful ones but keep medicaid and meals on wheels solvent for a bit ok?
Big Tariffs on Mexico, Canada and weirdly a smaller one on China- boom hit our big 3 and start talking shit about the EU. Not we're going to put a tariff on China and see how that goes then eye up Mexico,,,or we're going to do a 5% tariff on each and that amount will go up if ____ & ____ goals aren't met. Not to mention pissing off all our regional partners and risking losing allies doesn't seem like a great long term plan.
Close USAID- No need to look at which projects are worthwhile and which aren't just call it a criminal enterprise, storm the gates and shut that fucker down"
let's have DOGE storm the Treasury. Is Elon going to start pulling servers out again and call jerome powell a
guy?
Now its' about to be Let's create a sovereign wealth fund and buy Tik Tok and let really rich people run it! Why not, let's create a sovereign wealth fund and explore our best options for long term wealth generation.....i mean even you hardcore Trumpets have to admit this desperation to save the Chinese spyware social media thing is weird and rushed, right?
i don't udnerstand why things can't be implemented in well thought out and measured ways. The biggest mistakes are made when people are rushing decisions or trying to show how important they are at the start of their new job by making "major paradign shifts" without understanding the underlying reasons for the current way the business functions.
AND NO I AM NOT SAYING THEY SHOULDN'T DO ANYTHING OR TRY TO IMPLEMENT THEIR POLICIES. I am saying they way they are rushing hither and tither gives me little confidence these things were well thought out and thus won't end well. I also think there is a ton of short term plans with very little thought to the long term consequences which is not great if you are looking for a strong country past the next couple of years,
In business what many of these people are doing is called being a "Seagull Leader" meaning one that flies in, makes a lot of noise, shits all over things, and leaves quickly with things in much worse shape than before they arrived.
I didn't want Trump to win but I certainly don't want him to fail now that he has the reins in his hands.
