Why is society obsessed with how much noise it can make?

For 6 months of 2024 I heard fireworks every few days in my area. No idea why. Shit's annoying asf. To me loud noises are annoying when there's an alternative. Like a loud scooter doesn't annoy me anywhere near as much, cuz the scooter rider has no choice but to ride their loudmobile.

Loud cars are gay asf. Doubly so for exploding exhausts. I'm not opposed to reporting them if I get the number plate. It's usually idiot young men who still live with their parents so spent a bunch of money on a used BMW. Drive like a moron, then they go home and suck their mum's teat (not that there's anything wrong with living with parents, but I find it funny that they act like big men). Why they do it? If it's not genuinely for performance, they probs think loud is cool. They probs think ppl look at their car and think "wow that's a cool person, what a man". Or they like the feel of the loud car, and don't consider bothering others enough to offset that.

People playing music while cycling, walking or on public transport is a mixed bag. Depends how good the music is and how much swearing. Sometimes it's interesting to hear what ppl listen to, or the lyrics make me lol. It is always obnoxious and self-centred though. If they're young people, it's probs cuz these people probably never got smacked or otherwise put in their place as kids. If they're old, they're probably bonafide crazy.
There's a guy who rides a cycle around the city centre playing raving music from a boombox (eg hardcore dance music) every evening. I like it.

lol

Bookworm drives by with an ice cream truck
Hmmmm do they have that special pistachio ice-cream produced by feeding pistachios to Turkeys and turning their poop into ice-cream......?? Asking for a friend of of course I don't eat that pretentious shit.......

You would not like Latin America. In rural of places where most of the social life happens on both sides of the road going through villages, you have cafés/bars BLASTING salsa from like 4pm to maybe midnight.

You're right about that. Would drive me nuts if I could hear it in my house. Whenever I hear a story here in the US about neighbors killing the other 1st thought is wonder if they were blasting music all day or night? If so I can understand how dealing with that would make someone lose their mind. It's literally a torture technique.

It s insane, what i am talking about. Imagine being in your car and hearing like 3 sources of super loud music coming from 3 directions on both sides of the road. And they use powerful speakers too, it‘s crazy. But it‘s part of the LatAm craig. It‘s an extremely loud place.

Sounds awful. Couldn't imagine being stuck in the middle of what sounds like front row seats at 3 concerts going on at the same time.

Just got back from Puerto Rico.

Had a nice little Air B&B up in the mountains, dudes were fucking jamming the tunes driving past my place. Could hear the music from the bars down in town too. To be fair though it did get quiet before 11 and only on the weekend

I am not surprised. I have never been to Puerto Rico but i have been to a few LatAm countries and this stuff is quite prevalent.

This is mostly dependent on your stomping grounds. Where you live, where you work, where you hang out, areas you have to commute through.

The US is kind of a dumpster fire. Americans don't see it because you've got your noses in it. A lot of degeneracy everywhere. Short fuses, compromised brains, crime, drugs. To get equivalent quiet you'd get in a Canadian middle class neighbourhood, in many cases you need to live in an upper class neighbourhood in the US. Not always though. I'm sure you could find a decent area that's priced correctly, but you have to make it a priority to research it and plan a move there.

Naw bruv they only got petroleum based colored ice cream 😂

I think old people have complained about young uns being noisy since time began.

Yeah, and a least in my part of the US, things were louder in the 90s and early 2000s.

Things like super loud car stereos, modified exhaust pipes, and traffic honking were noticeably more common.
