Why is it OK to be racist against Asians?

my point that you're a whiny bitch?

I had a great time while I was in the US and in Canada, no form of racism whatsoever.

Most of my caucasian or black probably can't say that about their time in Asia.

US and Canada is among the top most racially tolerant country.

the minority in there receive the best minority treatment in the whole world.

why do you keep using what i say OTHER white people do as what i do? that kind of hurts your argument. and also, you must have missed that part where i said i dont really care what you think about me, because it has no affect on me or what i accomplish in life.

i guess thats the difference between you and i. i say asians cant drive and you are distraught over it. you say that whites are whiny and whatever else you said to try to show me how hurtful words are, and yet i gave zero fucks about it.

OK dude, you're a real badass, a trailblazer. Mr. zero fucks given, gotcha. Why you keep responding then? Go on with your day being your badass self.

And be careful for those who will try and turn this into a "we should all just hate blacks instead" thread.

you are right, you win. i am out because you have bored me to tears. and i wouldnt exactly consider it being a badass to not let other people dictate what you accomplish in life or how you perceive yourself. so you go on being crushed because someone thinks you cant drive. you should even consider counseling. i am gonna go ahead and try to figure out how to make more money today, never once thinking about those hurtful words you said. i am not even gonna let jack name calling hold me down!

seriously, just grow a pair under your tiny little thing there (another stereotype) and be a man. you can do it. i have faith in you!

edit- you pretty much summed up what i despise in those like you who choose do be the victim. it is considered being a "badass" to depend on yourself to succeed and not the actions of others to prop you up.

you know what i WOULD care about? if i was not allowed to eat in a restaurant because i was white. if i couldnt vote because i was white.

you know what i wouldnt care about? if someone on a message board said i couldnt drive.

I will put it down to people taking asians so called kindness as a weakness. I'm not saying asians are kind because that would be generalzing, but I think those who are racist towards asians see them as people who you can take advantage of.

I personally hate racism towards any race, but lately I've seen it a lot towards asians, especially in comments online. You get the same cliche asian jokes, you know which ones. I find anyone who uses those jokes as being very basic and simple minded who will laugh at just about anything that mocks people who they see as below them in some way or another.

Agreed, people will naturally try to do things that they know they can get away with if they think there is no social repercussion. If a person makes an asian joke in front of their friends they will often not be judged or outright condemned for it. So they think that what is OK within the group is also OK within the general society itself and message board comments are no different. Being a known member in a forum or comments section is similar to being in a group dynamic. People are very careful to stay aligned within the group consensus, so if its' ok to make comments about asians within a group setting that naturally people will try to do it to gain status and acceptance through humour.

It's also very present in our media....

who is the last Male Asian "hollywood" "media" star that was classifed our could be perceived as "sexy" or "alpha" or "manly?"

Whites have Staham, Gerard Butler, Russel Crowe...

Blacks have Denzel, Tyrese, Tyson, that huge guy from the Expendables.

Asians...Jet Li, maybe...Chow yun Fat?? the Korean guy from Lost and Hawaii 50???

How many Asian actors can you name that aren't in any away affiliated with martial arts?

that pervert, Suka from Dexter?

It's perfectly acceptable to make racist jokes, stereotypes and ridicule Asians in this country.

God help you if you crack a small joke about African Americans,

and God help you if think the Officer in the Ferguson shooting deserves a fair investigation...

Rick Yune, Rain, Sung Kang

Right and your personal anecdotal experience speaks for an entire social issue that's being discussed here.

Hey guys Yodsanan had a good time in the US and Canada, nothing more to see here, he had a good time guys. Nothing more to discuss.

Did I say that my personal experience speaks for everyone? It is what it is, personal experience.

History of racism and current social standing I'd be guessing.
Aboriginals copped it the worst here in Oz, and currently live lives far below the socio-economic average of the population, so racism targeting them and harking back to those events generates the most outrage.
Second would probably be Asians, by which I mean East Asians, based mostly on the numbers in the country and degree of racism they have faced.
On the other hand Australia is less sensitive to racism against black Americans (black face skits on TV "talent" shows and the response of Harry Connick Jr spring to mind).
Lack of cultural context.

I agree the Asian driving jokes aren't all that taboo in society. It's kinda like the white men can't jump, or white people can't dance things. Overplayed jokes but not yet relegated to the sin bin.

I do have a personal interest in the subject, seeing as I have two half-Asian sons.

I think the biggest problem I see is probably perception of Asian men as not masculine/not good looking. To me, this is the worst problem at a statistical level. Compared to that, snickering about being bad drivers is like saying that white people can't dance ... it's not a big deal, you will look lame complaining about it (why? because in the overall context of a bundle of stereotypes for each group, it's not a big deal). Hate crimes against Asians do happen, as do anti-Semitic hate crimes ... a terrible thing, sure, but statistically I would think Asians are less likely to be criminal victims than other races.

The real problem that I see (or at least am concerned about wrt my own sons) is that Asian men are stereotyped negatively when it comes to physical attractiveness/masculinity, which indeed sucks. Part of this is because recent immigrants aren't fluent in the code of projecting masculinity; the FOB syndrome, although this is declining nowadays. Part is because the number one way that men in America demonstrate masculinity is through sports, being huge and swole and fast and such, and Asians are statistically as underrepresented in pro sports as they are overrepresented at Harvard. But part of it is just aesthetic prejudice; the exact same face is seen as beautiful if female but not if male.

It also doesn't help, to my mind, that modern East Asian culture seems to hyper-emphasize being some sort of androgynous 'prettier than a girl' type of young boy. This kind of thing is rampant in Korea, and with the rise of "grass eating boys" in Japan it's even worse.

I thought you didn't care about my words and you were going to go on being you're badass self? Your jimmies seem to be so rustled that you had to resort to a racial stereotype to try to offend me. In the end I do win, because I exposed you as a racist, I pulled your strings and manipulated you like a puppet and now people see you for what you are. Knockout blow son, respect that.

I just find it funny when people say crap like "words don't affect me" when you know it;s a load of horsecrap and usually used as an argument by unintelligent people who have no argument.

Sorry that unfair treatment to whites in the media has ruined your day, maybe you should seek some counseling or join an organization to fight the social justice warriors.

Btw I would go out to try to make some money but since I'm a webmaster of over 15 sites(many that speak on social issues) and I'm reaching a point where my monthly passive income through affiliate sales and product creation is enough to support me, I don't really need to go out to figure out how to make money.

Thank you for outing yourself as a racist right at the end there, damn I must have really rustled your jimmies for you to resort to that base level of behaviour.

Uh yea, you actually kinda did do that. You also called me a whiny bitch but it's ok, you know why:

You had a good time in US and Canada.

This is now the default answer to any social or racial discussion:

Institutionalized racism? Double standard against whites in media? Asian stereotypes? world hunger?

The answer to all these questions:

Yodsanan had a good time in US and Canada

you dont get a whole lot of Asian people bitching about being discriminated against, so people assume it isnt a big deal. there is no million Chinese man march. there are no Asian riots. no Asian race baiters constantly on television.

out of sight, out of mind.

OK that's fair enough. But the statistics prove otherwise. It's not just about being seen as androgynous. Asians are in fact the most bullied group in the U.S. at 54% so it's not just heresay, theres actually proof, there is acts of violence and abuse against them at the group level.

But for some reason no one wants to address that.

you really sound desperate riding out that one statement from me. As I said before: I didn't meant it like that. Should be common sense.

Yea I've heard about Australia, dated an Aussie chick in the past and she mentioned that the racism against asians has really died down but was big in the 80's and 90's but now they've turned their attention to middle easterners and muslims. Never been there so really can't say, although an asian friend of mine was there and he was dating a white girl there and he got jumped one time and mad racial slurs everytime he went out with her. Not saying all Aussies are racist, the ones I met were awesome people so I really don't know, although I would love to visit there sometime I hear it's a beautiful country and I have some friends that live there now.

Your stats are extremely nebulous. What Asian subsection? Orientals, Indians? Pakistanis? Middle Easterners?

You do realize all of those are Asians? - making up 4 billion people, more than half the planets population. So your argument is that a group that makes up more than half the population gets bullied more. Well duh...

IDK man, I actually hear it quite a bit and I know dozens of Asians in all socio-economic levels and they all have an opinion on the subject and many were bullied growing up. Check out the reaction to the Alexandria Wallace video on Youtube, the Stephen Colbert "ching chong" incident. Read what asian people have to say about these issues, there are blogs, websites, videos, organizations that speak on it. The reason you don't hear about it is because it's not covered by mainstream media not because Asians don't care or do not speak out.

The fact is that 54% of asians are bullied as teens, the highest rate out of any race in America. They do speak out but there is no voice for them or they are not taken seriously.
