Why doesn't Chris Weidman get credit for beating Anderson Silva?

The big nuance was that Anderson was fooling around and giving Weidman more of a chance of catching him. But yes, Anderson was 38 years old and facing a young and hungry lion at his athletic peak. Even if Anderson took it seriously that was a very difficult match up for him at that age.

I didn't see it that way. I think Anderson didn't take Weidman seriously. He treated it like fighting Maia, Cote and Leites.

Obviously Weidman was better than them in hindsight but nobody going into that fight had Weidman as a favorite.

You'd have to be a fucking IDIOT to not take seriously a guy who was beating your ass. Cos that's what the fuck Weidman was doing.

It was a shock to everyone. Not just Weidman winning, but the way he won. I remember in the PBP on Sherdog most people had Silva winning the 1st round just because of his aura and people thinking Silva was just clowning him and he'd finish him later.

When you end somebody's record win streak you get the credit, it's that simple. This was no Fedor vs. Matt Mitrione kinda shit.
 
I ate crow for that fight. I had a friend who trained with Weidman. He was always telling me how Weidman was really good and I would be like STFU.

People will say Anderson was goofing off but that's what Anderson did routinely in fights. It was a tactic to get people to engage him and Chris had been getting the better of him up to that point. The win is legit for Chris.

The excuse Anderson was old though is a legit one as he was indeed 38.
 
I dont believe in luck, I believe people are lazy about information.

Chris did right things: he knew Silva like to dodge with upper body so he was ready to step forward after first punches when Silva was out of balance.

Some fight fans do not understand blocking. At worst its nothing but last moment cover. Do it well and your opponent lose his balance and barely touch you. Do it right and you destroy shit.

Silva acted like a jerkoff and this time he got caught flush and clean.

Weidman did what he was supposed to do so there shouldnt be any credit taken away. Silva may as well put 2 arms behind his back, bully beatdown style.
 
Silva beat Silva more than Weidman beat Silva.
 
Weidman is a douche so he gets shit on but he did smoke Silva twice and clearly had his number

Would it have been the same if Anderson was 5 years younger? Who knows but I’d still say Weidman would’ve had a high chance of beating him

I’ve hated Weidman ever since he KOd Silva and even more so since he celebrated when Silva’s leg was snapped in two but I can look at it more objectively a decade on <lol>
 
Anderson never came to win, he was "tired bro" and "didnt fight for belt" or want "heematch". If he came to win, the fight would have ended in the first.

You are missing the point. He was old Sherbro. Silva also roided, one more thing in common with Jones. Bonnar was 35, past his peak too...had to roid. Before that, he fought Sonnen who was like 35? Silva starting in 2010 always fought fighters coming out or already out of their peak. Okami was a fucking joke. 29 year old Chris was just inevitable.

Weidman wasn't beating his ass lol there wasn't even a lot going on. Weidman had good distance management and frustrated Anderson a bit, but to say he was "beating his ass" is a crazy stretch.
