you're pretty fucking light for a strongman aren't you?

No, not at all. There are weight classes in strongman, like other sports. I compete in the lightweight class. Anyway, big isn't strong, strong is strong. :)

yeah, there are weight classes, but the lightweight categories I see are always like sub 231 or sub 205 at the lightest. you're what, 165? that's a 40 lb deficit. and big aint strong, you're right, but it can be a hell of a lot stronger than small. How do you do on things like stone loading and such? I'm not trying to pick on you, just wondering how well you compete.

I'm actually ~155 and the lightweight class only goes up to 175. To be honest, my first strongman contest will be the Strongest Man in Pennsylvania on October 1st:

I do know a couple of guys who lift only for chicks. What :eek::eek:s. That is like buying a Hummer and only using it for the radio.

HAHAHAHA!! My buddy lifts for looks only and his gf WAS under the impression that he was pretty strong because he spent all that time in the gym. When I helped him move, he was having a REALLY tough time with his furniture, it was so bad that his gf was actually in shock that he wasn't the superman she thought he was. Now she's lost all interest in his appearance, LOL! It's actually pretty funny!!

You should fuck his girlfriend. That will teach him!

Presently i do not lift weights.

mainly because of curiosity. I want to see how big and freaky strong i can get without weights. It's a road full of challenges but i'm getting there.

one tip i'm playing with right now is when intensity is not an option to increase, increase frequency.

I already tried one bout of this but it lead to sever burn out in 4 days flat. so now i'm trying again with a little less intensity.

you have intrigued me. i'm wondering if you could give me a sample of what you're talking about???

I'm using an 8" steel log from BruteStrength.com

hey i have actually been looking in to getting one of those. do you like yours? do you have a big lawn to use it in or do you keep it at the gym?

I'm getting the log in the mail either tomorrow or Friday. I'll be using it on my driveway. I do farmer's walks on my lawn in the backyard. I use kettlebells in both places. I do regular lifting (barbells and dumbbells) in my college weight room.

So when you said "My overhead work is mainly done with a steel log" what you really meant was, "My overhead work will be mainly done with a steel log which will probably arrive sometime soon"? Does that mean you don't do overhead work right now? I don't understand.

And another thing: you can't say that you are using something (as in an 8" steel log), which you haven't acquired yet. I know it's a tricky little quirk of the English Language. But present tense implies that you are doing it right now.

Wow, you sure are a petty bastard who is overly concerned with semantics.

Yes, I currently do overhead work with a barbell, dumbbells and kettlebells.

Here is the corrected version for you: I will be using an 8" steel log from BruteStrength.com after it arrives either tomorrow or Friday.

"Whatcha gonna do when HULKAMANIA runs wild on YOU!?" :icon_lol:

Diesel, I think the concern is continuity in your statements. Something like "I'm a strongman not a powerlifter" is later followed by, "well my first strongman comp isn't until ______" and something like "my overhead work is done with a steel log" is followed by "well, my log isn't here yet." It sets off bullshit sensors when you do things like that. It's best not to say you do things that you intend to do. People begin to think, how much of what this guy says can we believe? It's not semantics he's harping on, it's false statements.

Do you have some tires to drop your log on? I don't know much about log lifting, but you're supposed to have a couple tires aren't you?

well you said you aren't currently "lifting weights" but you are trying experiments to get bigger and stronger correct??? so are you saying you are doing like bodyweight workouts or using kettlebells. i mean what are you doing right now to get bigger and freakier? the reason i ask is because i've had some recent injuries with my back from lifting heavy weights and playing football for years so if the time would come where i would have to stop lifting for an extended period of time to heal up i could maybe still do bodyweight workouts to keep my musclemass up or at least minimize loss.

Anyway, I started lifting because of my girlfriend.

I felt like a woman of her caliber deserved to be with a man and not a pale, wan little college boy like me. It surprised me that she had, in the end, condescended to be my girlfriend, but I promised to myself that I wouldn

Fine. I compete in my first strongman contest in about two weeks (October 1st.) I've been training for two of the events (farmer's walk and deadlift for reps) consistently. I will be training for the log press event when my log arrives in the mail, either tomorrow or Friday. I don't have access to a large tire to flip or kegs to carry which are the other two events, five in total.

No, I don't have or need tires for the log press because I'm not going to drop the log. I have two thick (3/4") plywood boards. That's all that I need.

What's with the hassle?
