He fought who was there at the time, his era.

Fedor would barely crack top 10 in todays era.

Brawling face first just doesn't work anymore.

Yeah, they were the top heavyweights at the time. That doesn't mean most of them were even decent fighters by today's standards.

He beat some fighters who were actually good of course, and he certainly is debatably the GOAT HW

but to say his record rivals GSP's, Jones or Aldo's is a fucking joke.
 
It's people who feel left out, upset that they missed the greatest fighter ever because they were watching slam ball or the World Series of poker instead.
 
Some fighters (like Fedor) don't really get hate because of themselves, their fans cause it. Fedor fans are like, McGregor nuthuggers from 10 years ago. Just happen to get mad and cuss more if you disagree with them and call you "UFC braindead zombie". I bet if he didn't had such fanbase he would have more respect. Maldonado gave everyone that ever hated Fedor fans a reason to make fun of them.

What matters is the actual fighters' opinions, and the overwhelming majority considers Fedor teh GOAT.

I agree. I also think the internet is a sanctuary for the mentally ill, and you see plenty of examples of that here on Sherdog. Guys take their rage out on Fyodor for whatever reason. Fyodor wouldn't care though. He would light a candle and pray for them in church.

Gsp, silva, Jones then fedor for me all time

Jones surpasses all by beating Cormier in my opinion because he faced adversity outside like others would face adversity by losing and to make the comeback.
 
People are free to like and dislike who they want but on this sub forum its a pretty sad situation that the majority of posters seem to be here due to their dislike of Fedor, that was the case even during his retirement. Ironically the main UFC forum actually has a much lower percentage of trolls and Zuffa fanboys hence my posting there most of the time.
 
I don't hate Fedor. Always maintain he is the HW GOAT until someone goes on a streak like he has.

Just CAN'T STAND Fedor knobslobberers who make excuse after excuse for him and his losses (even pretend they weren't legitimate--TRT!!!!) and try to prop up the cans he has fought as legitimate fighters.

Fedor in his prime wasn't a simple brawler. If you watched his earlier fights, you'd know this.

And yeah, prime Sylvia, Herring and Hunt were all very good heavyweights that would be top 10 guys today. Shit, Hunt still is top 10.

I certainly don't agree with everything that's posted positively about him but I think poor pro Fedor posting on Sherdog is outnumber at least 10-1 by poor anti posting. Seriously it always seems to me that the majority of the posters on this sub forum are only here to post negative comments about non Zuffa MMA, a load of people who inhabit a forum to defend the corperate entitity that's successfully attached itself to their egos to maximise profit.

Fedor for all sense of purpose was a face first brawler. The thing he had over other fighters was speed.

Look at Machida at MW. There is a reason Fedor fought at HW and not LHW. Because his greatest advantage would be nullified.

Fedor did not fight prime Sylvia... come on man.

Hunt had 6 MMA fights when he fought Fedor and got submitted by a MW. Herring was a solid win but not great.

Herring is equivalent to someone like Bonnor or a Sonnen.

Rothwell being close to a title shot says all that is needed about the HW division of today.

Sorry but stuf flike this proves my point, Fedor fought Crocop and Arlovski, two of the most dangerous quick counter punchers in MMA history. Those fights very clearly showed that the simplistic "looping punches = brawler" lable was nonsense but it still seems to carry on. Nog as well was also just as quick with his hands as his brother he had more than enough for anyone standing at LHW during his best years.

Fedor didn't fight the roided Sylvia but he did fight a similar fighter to the one that beat Arlovski twice who I would argue might have been better, not so aggressive but more tactical leaving fewer openings. He didn't fight the Sylvia suffering a serious back injury that Randy did, if strong rumours is to be believed Couture suddenly asked for the fight when he found out about the injury when Tim was training at his gym.

If your looking for an equivalent of Sonnen then I would say Randleman or Coleman is a lot closer although I think both of them were better wrestlers than him plus Coleman was a lot tougher and Randleman a lot more dangerous standing.

Don't think theres really a direct equivalent of Herring at LHW as he had quite a unique skillset but I would say Shogun is probably closest. Very slippery grappler who was dangerous ontop and a dangerous brawler standing although never as good technically as Rua there.

As far as Hunt goes he had wins over Wanderlei and Crocop(still the best of his career IMHO) by the time he fought Fedor and had been training for over 3 years. That for me is a much better version of Hunt that what we see today, slower and without much cardio.

Hunt beat Wanderlei and Crocop because they both stood with him. How did Fedor beat Hunt? Oh yeah, same way the MW beat him via submission.
