Why did Jones look so terrible towards the end of his LHW run?

We're lead to believe that weight classes are a hardened proof ascension ladder of prowess, when that simply isnt the case. LHW is the king weight class. Where you see the greatest blend of size, skill and speed. Not HW. HW is where skill and speed diminishes.

Complacency and lack of real competition and a seemingly disordered home life. Still got the job done though.

Jones has always looked terrible. He only was successful because he didn’t have to compete under the same restrictions as his opponents did. Then, with age, even having unfair advantages began to not be enough. He moved to HW and faced a no ground game Gane who played to Jones’ strengths and a retired, aged fighter who was looking for one last payday.

Look at the guys he fought where he looked good, those were all washed up dudes and 90% were old MW's past their primes too. Everytime he faced a guy that wasnt 3 times smaller or 50 yrs old he looked very beatable and actually lost some of those fights. Its like taking Khabib and feeding him BJ Penn, Frankie Edgar, Benson Henderson, etc now and then saying wow he beat so many former champs lol.

No. Shogun, Machida, Evans, Glover, DC, Gus, etc. We're still top form. Rampage wasn't that old but likely had begun slide same with Chael. Bones lapped Khabib twice on qaumity wins not even close.

Shogun top form? Dude had both knees totally shut with surgeries, even Chael beat him in 1 min lol. Machida was just too small, Evans too. Glover was 40 already. DC was 3 times smaller than Jones. Gus beat the living crap out of Jones since he wasnt that much smaller or older. Thats exactly what im saying. Jones struggled with dudes that werent newbies and werent washed up or small. The guys he fought that werent that much smaller and older like Gus, Reyes and Santos beat him.

Oh cool your a delusional Bones hater - sorry for ya. Dude your wrong everywhere there . Glover was past 40 lol. Shogun was the champ, ... I could go on but that would be wrong

The LHW's he was fighting were in their prime and lot better than the HW's he's currently fighting.

Stipe is aged our and Gane is a kickboxer with novice grappling.
Hit the nail right square on the head.

once he started fighting people who weren’t significantly smaller than him he immediately looked less dominant

Jon failed multiple PEDS tests for multiple PEDS and presumably had to fight clean for that period of time.

He took an extended absence from the sport for reasons we likely will never confirm, but a shadow suspension is a possibility.

How do you get a “shadow suspension”?

Jones was used to fighting legends of the sport like Shogun, Rampage, Machida, Vitor, and Cormier. None of them beat him or even rocked him even after years of trying. So he didn't see much less accomplished fighters like Smith, Santos, and Reyes as threats.

Jones did very little training or preparation for those opponents. They poured everything they had into their fights with Jones and still failed to rock or wobble him. So they claim they outpointed a fighter that barely trained.

There was some rule change that USADA didn't have to announce when a fighter was suspended. So when Jon took 3 years off there was some speculation he had been suspended behind the scenes with only a handful of people knowing about it.

Stipe is aged
Let's not forget that after Thiago Santos fought Jon he was subbed by a 41 year old Glover.
Stipe is just 1 year older today than Glover was at the time. Glover is 45 now.

I think fighting results has a good amount of randomness.
Sport fans are obsessed with finding a 'trend' or a narrative to explain all results. They think because an athlete or a team did unusually bad two times in a row that is proof they must have done something different or had tougher opponents.

But it could all be random.
Statistically if we have a bunch of fighters who'll do well 7/10 times - there's nothing weird that some of them will have 2 bad performances 2 times in a row, with zero reason beyond chance.

That’s not accurate. USADA wasn’t allowed to announce when a fight had been flagged, they were still allowed to announce it though once the fighter agreed to the penalty. Jones can’t just sit out for three years on a ped suspension without agreeing to the suspension.

Usually it involves the accuser wearing a tin-foil hat.

Accurate and true lol jones wouldn’t be able to sit out three years on a ped suspension without agreeing to the ped suspension, and once he agrees to the suspension then Usada was allowed to announce it.
