They occupied and lived off the existing population and land.

Notice that Siberia is much more sparsely populated than China? And China was in open rebellion throughout the war. Where would Japan get the extra men to occupy China and also invade Siberia?

Luckily for Germany, the USSR had to race the other Allies to Berlin rather than completely over run the whole country, and lucky for Japan China never got the opportunity to invade...

Because based on reports of what the Russians did for payback on the German population they did conquer....

Absolutely. And you really can't blame the Soviets for that payback, either.

The US raced over to Berlin with the specific purpose of stopping the USSR from turning all of Germany communist.

I never personally understood very well why people allowed themselves to be used the way they do. That's just me, I've always been a square peg and many, many authoritarians have just disliked me for that reason even if I don't mean to rub them the wrong way, I always do. So.., I have a hard time comprehending how such large numbers of people just go do stuff because some other Alpha told them to. I do know how that can escalate inside of a man though, meaning the madness and violence, been times in my life where I had to reign myself in, back when I was doing security because I was genuinely afraid I'd end up killing someone if I didn't. Ya, we all have these things in us and we deny it at our own peril.

For a lot of these guys, they had no choice. They either enlisted and fought, or were arrested.

ya, i know, power in numbers though. 1 percent shouldn't be able to control that many people. What would happen if the folks in Russia went after the govt, no matter what, or the people in china? Sure, lots of bloodshed but that happened anyways, might as well go down swinging.
