Why Americans sucks in rugby?

rugby is just another example of a poverty sport that encourages the groping of balls by men on both teams.

To be fair it's a sport he'd never played before in his entire life. It's amazing he made the roster let alone that he made some impact in the NFL. How do you think Tom Brady would do in the NRL or in international rugby against the All Blacks?

Don't you know that NFL athletes are just naturally better at everything though, those 'A-level athletes' would probably have little difficulty transitioning to a sport they've never played in their lives.

I would have loved to see the Sharpe brothers play Rugby back in the day. Remember they played ultimate and were ridiculously good in a very short amount of time.

Did anyone watch Dhani Jones' show where he tries different sports? He played in a second division rugby game.

That looks like a really cool show, I see they had a episode where he played hurling too. Is there anywhere to watch the full episodes? I'd also like to see the full rugby one.

There is an Irish show here called The Toughest Trade where athletes from GAA sports swap for a few weeks with athletes from other ones, baseball, cricket, soccer, american football where the ones. New episode coming soon as well.

Dhani Jones is a very cool guy. Try the travel channel. He actually plays in a league rugby game for a few minutes.

I didn't see the hurling episode but he completed a 200km gran fondo over 3 mountains with Giovanni Battaglin in northern Italy.

Dhani jones carried a guy down part of Mt Everest.

He also did soem wrestling an went to Thailand to do Muy thai.

Running with a ball isnt so different than running with a ball. He didnt make an impact.

Why dont you pick someone other than the least athletic position on the field.....?

Any tard that cant see the difference between NFL requiring pads/helmets and Rugby likely cant spell their name.

Are you referring to Jarryd Hayne?

You are deliberately oversimplifying it. There are similarities because running with a ball is running with a ball, but there are also many differences. Including the way you run and how you hold the ball, as many americans noted at the time, in NFL you run much lower and keep the ball tucked at all times because you will never need to pass it, in rugby you tend to run more upright and hold the ball differently (also because an NFL ball is much smaller) because you always need to be in a position to pass or offload. Maybe not a huge difference, but when you are playing at the highest level of the sport when things are moving so quickly it's things that your muscle memory that are going to hurt you. Not to mention that having to read blocking schemes and hit the correct gap is not something that is easy to do, nor is it comparable to how rugby plays out. If Trent Richardson, or numerous other players who had been playing american football their whole lives struggled to do it at the NFL level then it was obviously going to difficult for Hayne who had never even played it before. And he still had a few decent plays when he could get into open space, even if it was only preseason.

And ok, how do you think someone like JJ Watt or Odell Beckham Jr. would do in the NRL, or at the highest level of rugby union (e.g against the All Blacks)? Not very well, even though they are excellent athletes with the skills they need to play their position in the NFL they wouldn't have the stamina, the skillset or the tactical knowledge of how to play rugby union or league.

TBT - they wouldn't do shit, even given a year of training. the reality is that these sports involve an insane amount of skill that isn't easily acquired.

Did Hayne do better in the NFL than Ebner did in the Olympics?

edit:
Could you imagine Larry Allen as a rugby player? Would be an absolute monster.

Where does the idea of rugby being a poor country's sport come from? Last I checked, rugby is mostly popular in Australia, NZ, UK, Ireland and France... then you have South Africa, Argentina and those Pacific Islander nations, I suppose, but still... hardly a "third world country" sport.

Also, no way NFL players would dominate rugby. They'd be completely gassed 10 minutes into the game. And I mean even the most athletic RB's and WR's. The fatass linesmen and tackles would have heart attacks in 1 minute or less.

1) Ebner played sevens at the Olympics. Sevens is a version of union with much shorter halves and less players, athletic attributes alone can see you do well. USA is actually decent at sevens.

2) Ebner played rugby sevens, and the full game too, before he ever played American football.

Larry Allen looks like a monster, but highly doubt he would have had anywhere near the stamina to play rugby. What position would he play? OL is not akin to any position in rugby, his strength would be incredible in the scrum, but that's it.
No doubt if someone like that grew up playing rugby he could've been a beast though.
