whole wheat pancakes

so I'm guessing you guys aren't big fans of whole grains then, especially you Wire?

My biggest problem is whole wheat grains is it gives the vast majority of people the wrong impression. What we normally get is people who try and tighten up their diet and read that whole wheat grains is the way to go and they are completely fooled into thinking "Wow! This whole wheat shit is good for me and it even feels like cheating!" ...

Obviously grains don't have this noticeable effect on some people. If you have great genetics and workout 4 hours a day like Georges St. Pierre you won't notice this....most people do though

Ive seen people eating this stuff and you see them destroying whole food sources like eggs by throwing out the yolks. Its fucking laughable for someone to throw out the yolk and order wheat toast at breakfast and yet I have seen this first hand from a female friend of mine.

most ppl dont eat the yolk because of its high cholesterol content. if u just eat the whites u still get good protein source. sure the yolk has your b vitamins, some fat, some protein and some other nutrients in small amounts, but if u eat the whites just for protein and get your b vitamins, fat etc from other sources, your fine

dont really understand your laughable comment

And I don't really understand your laughable comment.

Short version; the cholesterol in yolks is the good kind. Peep one of the many many egg threads.

I find that whole wheat products are superior to white since they offer much more benefits whereas white is just empty calories. if everybody replaced their white flour with whole wheat but kept the portions the same, that would give some health benefits. But the case is that since they think they are taking in a super healthy product, they up their intake of it and therefore are consuming much more carbohydrates than they were before and this leaves them wondering why they gained weight

the cholesterol in egg yolks fail to raise the LDL cholesterol in the blood so that eliminates it's major health concern. In fact, I recall several times I have read that without the yolk, the egg whites are not utilized to it's maximum availability since the yolk has nutrients that work hand in hand with the whites for our body to utilize

Avoiding dietary cholesterol is silly.

The original recipe my darling wife found is here: Primal Fusion: V-Day Breakie: Coconut Pancakes

Here's the way (mostly) as we made it (for 10 3" diameter cakes).

3 eggs
3 tbs butter
3 tbs whole milk
1.5 tsp honey
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
4 table spoons coconut flour
2-3tbs shaved coconut
Splash of vanilla
Water until they're a more pancake-esque consistency

then fried em up in cocnut oil over medium-low heat.
They're a little denser and drey than normal pancakes but REALLY good, especially with fruit on them.

thanks that sounds pretty good

It'd push the calories/macros out of where I want them to be. I asked my wifey to give it a go the next time she makes them w/o me. I'll let ya know.

I don't think it would hurt to have a higher protein day than normal. It's not like you are having 600 grams of carbs. Thanks for asking her though, I wonder if the vanilla whey would be a good substitute for vanilla extract.

Have you ever had protein pancakes? I have never had them but it just seems like a really good match. Coconut and Whey pancakes.

There are some kidney issues that run in the family. So while I get around 1g/lb, I don't eat more. Besides I'm dieting right now so calorie control is key.

It might be, but I wonder if it'll make them too dense. Coconut flour doesn't bind like the real stuff so it's basically egg holding the cococnut meat together.

I haven't, but it might be a good idea. Could also try chocolate coconut pancakes..mmm

Oh, that's understandable.

Adding some cocoa powder sounds good too.

You do realize that even hinting at throwing away yolks in this forum is a bannable offense. You better hope none of the mods see that.

I just found this from T nation

1 cup cottage cheese
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup egg whites (6 in total)
1 scoop Vanilla Metabolic Drive
Cinnamon (to taste)

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend till you have a consistent texture. Pour into frying pan, and go to town. Scumptious!

Haha, yeah that's true. I think people might get the wrong idea seeing some of those comments though. The egg yolk IS healthy, yes, but there is also nothing at all unhealthy about not eating the yolk, regardless of the reasoning (flawed as it may be). As long as you're still getting enough amount of good fat, not eating the yolk is going to be a non-factor.

But just for the record, a breakfast chock full of delicious, runny yolks is part of what gets me out of bed in the morning.

Right… but we all know 90+% of the time people are not eating the yolk is because they are actually misinformed/doing it for the wrong reasons. They are afraid their cholesterol will go through the roof or they will “get fat”.
Yeah...I know, that 's not cool. But I've seen people here get blasted for adding Egg Beaters (or egg substitute) to thier breakfast and I'm like "WTF??". Physically throwing out the yolks is stupid, but in the end buying egg whites or Egg Beaters and using that is perfectly fine as long as you're still getting your macros.

I wish I could say that…..sad to say my damn alarm clock is what gets me up in the morning :icon_sad:
Haha, yeah it was around a year ago that I made myself start getting up ~ 10-20 minutes so I could enjoy a good breakfast every morning, and it was the best thing I've ever done. Eggs are easily in my top three foods now...and the amazing thing is, I eat them almost every morning and am pretty sure I will never get sick of them. ...now on the days when I'm running late, a protein shake it is, but I'm kinda pissed the whole morning because I had to settle for that as opposed to a breakfast with eggs hahah.

ok i see i'm apparently in the category of misinformed about the yolk issue, but as a person with diabetes i tend to limit my dietary cholesterol. you guys should read this link Eggs: Are they good or bad for my cholesterol? - MayoClinic.com

it talks about what the american heart association reommends (something like no more than 300mg cholestrol a day)

it does mention that eating animal fat is prolly more of a factor than eating dietary cholesterol
