Who was more impressive against Mosley?

Mayweather was more impressive and would thoroughly outbox Pacquiao if they ever fought.
 
It's really hard to say.

Mayweather was more impressive but Pacquiao was more dominant.
Getting rocked in the second round, having his knees buckled, coming back and beating the shit outta Mosley is more impressive to me than seeing Pacman knock Shane down and then going into cruise control for the rest of the fight.


That being said, their performances against Shane cannot be used as an effective measuring stick on how they'd do if they ever fought one another.
 
Mayweather would never fight Pacman like he fought Shane Mosley. Pacman hits a lot harder than Mosley and he is a lot faster. Mosley himself said he was surprised how much power Pacman had. He stated that he had never been hit that hard before...

So yes, Mayweathre has incredible defense but Pacman has incredible offense. If Pacman had landed the punch that Mosley landed on Mayweather...Pacman would have finished Mayweather.

Mayweather vs Pacman will not happen because Mayweather is afraid to fight him. Mayweather can run around the ring all he wants but sooner or later he is going to get hit by Pacman. After that Mayweather will have the same choices that all the other fighters have had to make against Pacman. Either fight him and risk getting knocked out. Or go into survival mode and run around the ring for 12 rounds like Clottey and Shane Mosley did.

Pacman is not just the P4P King, he is an 8 Time World Champion in 8 different weight classes. No fighter in history has ever done that. Pacman is considered a top 10 all time great!!!
 
mayweather clearly looked more impressive. everyone is ragging on shane but manny didnt exactly press for the knock out. when floyd fought him floyd boxed beautifully and landed several big shots. manny landed maybe 2 or 3 shots that mattered at all

manny didn't go for the knockout? did you not see the last three rounds of the fight? mayweather landed more cause shane was actually punching and he was getting countered. i think its more impressive that with those 2 or 3 shots, Manny scared Shane with his power so much that he pretty much defended all nigth and became content to lose a decision.
 
i think all the mayweather fans should get together and write him a huge love letter. maybe he'll grow some balls and fight pac.

No joke. Why are all these PBF fans so certain he will win? fuck man if I were the best I would welcome any fucking fight. I would wnat to prove it. Hes scared homie. No wonder he wants 100 mil for a fight, so he can retire and run away for the rest of his life. Floyd, do work, can't delay any longer for cash.

I hope hes just being a "business" man and working up hype before signing the fight. That wuss-o-tron betta! Robbery for the fansif it doesnt happen. How can you be an entertainer but not put on the potential greatest fight ever. Fool ass PBF, get in the ring and do work.
 
I was really hoping that Pac knocked out Mosely. Unfortunately it did not happen. To me, the importance of this fight would have been to indicate who would most likely win a fight with Pac and PBF if PBF never mans up to face Pac. Now we will never know since both Pac and PBF won unaninous lopsided decisions.
 
What makes this thread so comical is that it asks for a subjective response, and people act like they are speaking about an objective fact. Like consortium has said again and again: this is about what you prefer, people.

Personally, I though Floyd was more impressive. This is for 2 reasons:

1) He adjusted. After getting wobbled by Shane, Floyd changed gears and proceeded to box Suger's ears off for the remainder of the bout. He put on a clinic.

2) Shane didn't give Manny a chance to impress us. He fought not to lose, rather than to win. If he had actually fought Manny, Manny might have had the chance to impress us more. As it stands, Manny chased a guy for 9 or so rounds. That isn't impressive. It's not Manny's fault at all, but it certainly isn't impressive.

Well, yeah, if you look at it that way. Mosley was fighting hard against Mayweather so Mayweather had more chances to be impressive with his counter striking while Mosley shelled up against Pacquiao so Pacquiao had little chance at showing his skillset.

So I guess its Mosley's fault though. If he fought the same fight against Pacquiao as he did PBF, we'd have a much better measuring stick to know how each were impressive in their own way but we all know had Shane opened up more against Pac, he'd have gotten hurt A LOT MORE badly.

But he didn't, so using the "we all know" line is pointless. All we can do is judge what we saw, not what we think we could have seen "if only." What we saw was a great track meet, not a great boxing match. Mayweather was given a chance to fight a great fight, and he did. Is the bout with Manny Suger's fault? You bet it is. That still doesn't mean Manny was impressive. Further, nothing about this bout really clarifies the Mayweather/Pacquiao picture. Nothing will at this point except for them fighting each other.
 
It`s hard to say because they both dominated mosley.

I would say Pacquiao was more impressive because he actually dropped mosley and was never seriously hurt unlike Mayweather.

i still remember when a light bulb clicked in mayweathers head and he got shanes timing down, and from that moment on, every punch mosley threw was 1-2 inches to short, followed by a quick counterpunch from mayweather.
 
lol at these people who thought Manny looked shit. He looked shit by his standards, ok, but that's just a testament to how great he is. He thoroughly dominated Mosley and was never in trouble which is something that can't be said about Mayweather against Mosley. Mayweather almost lost in that fight and he actually lost rounds. lol.
 
Mosley was not afraid to throw punches at Mayweather, even when he was clearly beat. The fact is, Mosley was throwing at Fraud Gayweather....which is why he was getting countered. Against Pac, he clearly feared Manny's power and was in retreat mode the entire fight....it's hard to counter somebody that is running away from you not throwing punches. Shane admitted that he was badly hurt when he got dropped, and from that point on it was pure survival and minimal risk via retreat. If Shane took the same risks he took with Fraud Gayweather he'd still be in the hospital.

Saying "his game plan was to counter is far too simplistic. People set up counters in different ways. Some do it by catching punches and returning fire (such as Chris John). Some do it by using footspeed to move completely out the way (like Paulie Malignaggi at his best), some use subtle upperbody movement with decent blocks (like James Tony in his pomp), some put up a wall with their hands and use opportunities off their opponents being forced to punch their gloves (such as Winky, Clottey, Sylvester and even Abraham), some do it by pure upperbody movement (as McClosky recently did against fellow Roach trained fighter Khan), some use foot speed to slide to the side and counter (as Pac does when people leap in). In each case there are two parts of countering... getting out of the way of the punches coming in, either by directly avoiding them or making sure they are never thrown and then actually landing a counter punch.

Mosley did the first part very well, using half steps and upper body movement to put the brakes on Pac's offence. Despite the knockdown and some decent flurries the most offensively gifted fighter in the world right now was to a large extent disarmed... and the punch stats reflect that. Manny threw 552 punches and only landed 182. Compare that to Margarito (landed 474 of 1069), Cotto (336 of 780) and Clottey (246 of 1231)... in each case Manny was able to throw significantly more and land more over the length of those fights than against Mosley. With the exception of Clottey, who created a wall with his arms that Pac basically had to punch his way through, Pac also landed at a far higher percentage in those bouts. The result is clear... Mosley took Pac's offence away from him for much of the fight.

The reason we're hard on Mosley is that avoiding offence is only one part of countering... and certainly only one part of winning the fight. You also need to use the opportunities you create to land punches of your own and it was there that Mosley failed miserably. Again, punch stats give a fairly stark indication of this... Mosley only threw 260 punches which is far less than even Clottey threw and only landed 82... which again is the lowest from those fights. Especially in the middle rounds when Mosley had recovered from the knockdown he should have known his gameplan wasn't working... while he was reducing Manny's output he wasn't doing enough to even come close to winning rounds... and changed it up. He didn't. He stuck to doing what he'd done in the 1st and 2nd round which led to basically the same result; Manny unable to raise the pace with any regularity and a listless fight that impressed no-one.

It's worth noting of course that "defensive" Mosley in this fight only landed 10 less punches overall against Pac then "offensive" Mosley did against Mayweather. Once again it comes down to what you like more... someone who scores a knockdown, is never in danger but otherwise is rendered largely impotent or someone who takes a hard shot by one of the biggest punchers at 147lbs, recovers and then proceeds to beat the hell out of his opponent for the rest of the fight. Both were generally impressive... but both also had poor moments.
 
The very fact that Mosley was scared to fight PAC automatically makes Pacquiao the more impressive, Mosley had never looked like that before, even against Forrest.

Shane almost knocked Mayweather out and was never afraid of what Mayweather offered and felt he had a shot the whole time.

But if what you want is stats then.

When did Mosleys face look worst? After Pacs fight
When was Mosley hurt worst? PAC round 3
Who did Mosley hurt worst? Mayweather round 2
Who did Mosley praise more after the fight? He said Pacman was unlike anything he fought before.
Who beats women? Mayweather

So, Pacman wins
 
its hard to hate on mosley when hes 10 million richer and likely laying next to a naked bella gonzalez right now.

I think a better indicator of who the better fighter is between Mayweather and Manny, are the Marquez fights. Manny had trouble with Marquez's boxing, while Mayweather made Marquez look like a sparring partner.
