Who here is still Catholic??

I know her son gets a scholarship (hes in 5th grade) and even with that its over $300 a month. There are some other good public schools: greenfield, meredith, gamp, palumbo, bodine, etc.

Are those normal high schools or institutes?

Also when I went to catholic school it got cheaper with each kid. I'm one of six and my parents weren't rich.

okay, well if you do that as well as somehow ensure your child wont come into contact with any rapist priests or physically abusing nuns, then more power to you.

To me, it just makes more sense to keep your kid out of the mental institution all together, instead of sending him there and just telling him, "just remember son, everyone around you at the place im sending you 9 hours a day, 5 days a week, is crazy. And on top of that, there are several hostiles on the premises that I need you to avoid contact with all together."

Maybe its just me, but that seems unfair to put that burden on a growing child. A positive environment is very important.

Is there no regular private schools available in your area?

I think you got the wrong idea on what Catholic schools do. It's not like sending them to regular church or something. Most Catholic schools seem to be more like academies, institutes, and more rigorous schools rather than churchy. A lot of them have long waiting lists Not because there are so many hardcore Catholics, but because they are usually much better than public schools.

how do you get air time on the PBS in the us then?

Probably just depends. PBS doesn't make their own programming and all the stations are interdependently owned or operated. You can probably buy some air time. Again, it's not something that affiliation numbers of a certain church affect. The whole system for churches is completely different here. That is why so many were confused when you were talking about you being "officially" a catholic and being registered and them not wanting to take you off.

Catholic school girls rule.

...and with your spirit. Born and raised Catholic bitches represent.

Public broadcasting here means government funded television.

Yeah. Here they get government funding, too. But I think most of the cash they get is from private donations, grants, and fees paid by member stations.

What I'm saying is that there is nothing that says "The Catholic Church has X million official members, therefore they are are allotted X amount of broadcasting hours."

And again, churches here are tax exempt but they don't get more or less privileges or funding because of membership numbers. That is why there is no "officalness" to it or a registry or incentive to prevent you from being taken off a registry. It doesn't matter if a church has 30 million members or 50 million members or 100 million.

As I have been catching up on this thread, I have seen 2 ads on TV for the Catholic Church. They are having a campaign where I live called Catholics Come Home, reminding people that they do terrible things and that the cure for that is returning to the Church.

lol in which way is any of this affecting your life. I only read the first page, I will go back and read the rest now to see if you answered this.

when I sold cutco, I didn't bother quitting, I just stopped showing up. Whether I am still a cutco salesperson, i couldn't give less fucks. it affects my life none whatsoever, just like it doesn't affect yours.

regardless, I am still a staunch catholic, though I certainly dont agree with all church policies. I do however attend mass every sunday and holy day and find comfort in their practices and teachings.

it affects me because it's on my mind and makes me feel bad.

Also, I really don't give a shit about what a 'staunch catholic' thinks affects my personal life or doesn't

On a personal level, if you were raised catholic, you'll stay that way, God has little to do with it.

On an institutional level, if you live in italy, if you were raised catholic you'll stay catholic, God hs little to do with it

And I don't really give a shit about where you think my kids should go to school or what my spiritual beliefs should be.

If it's on your mind and makes you feel bad, to bad for you. You have no right to feel good at the expense of other's spirituality. Get you head straight and stop letting other people's religious beliefs concern you.

Honestly, if this bothers you, you should be more angry with your country for having the system it does.

I'm just saying, I don't get the issue with it. I'm not registered as a republican even though that is what I vote as more often than not. I couldn't care less about what I am registered as, so I am simply trying to figure out why you are on such a crusade (no pun intended) to be unregistered.

Reading through the thread I see mention of religious tax... I am unfamiliar with the rules of Europe (nor had I even realized you were from there). Are you telling me the government automatically links with all churches to assign this tax? Or is it that you have a choice of paying this tax?

Calm down, I wasn't condemning you by saying I was a staunch catholic. More so just the fact that I have gone to other churches and liked the catholic church the best. To me organized religion is just a way of practicing your spirituality. I don't think protestants or non christians are going to hell just because of their religious affiliation.

Honestly, if this bothers you, you should be more angry with your country for having the system it does.
honestly this... where is your rant about the injustices of the netherlands and how they make you pay a religious tax and how they link church and state?

I never told you where you should send your kids, Why would I? I don't give a shit about your children or your beliefs as long as it doesn't affect me

No, the idea behind the system is good. I have absolutely nothing against the catholic church getting air time etc. They just shouldn't be misusing my information and make it hard for me to change that

We don't link church and state GODDAMMIT, how do people get that crazy idea? The greatest secular thinkers in the history of mankind were Dutchmen in the prelude to the enlightment

being republican is a CHOICE

Um, if church affiliations has a legit affect on people because of subsidies, taxes, etc. They shouldn't even have the ability to make it hard for you to change your status. Again, that's a crappy system in place. Tell your government to fix the system to have better rules in place and proper, uniform steps to declare and change affiliation.

So is being catholic... Like you said, you can unregister, its just an annoying process. Which as New Mexico says, is a problem only because of the policy your country has in place. If thats how airtime and money is doled out, I would expect several religions like to make it as hard as difficult to unsubscribe.

I never accused you of linking church and state. I was just confused as to how this happens if church and state AREN'T linked. Are you telling me there is a government database linked with the catholic registry or something? I mean I would understand if they did the taxes through census results, that would be a logical linking. I am asking how the two get linked. How does the government know your ID # falls under a certain religion?
