Who here is still Catholic??

100,000 child abuse cases in the United States alone.

Thats not hyperbole, that is a fact.

where are you getting this stat? I google various ways of it and didn't find anything near this number. in fact I found that priests molest less (or according to some studies, the same) rate as all other males.

and like you said all the catholic church does is evil... that is inherintly hyperbole. All the food drives, all the charity work, all the shelters are all evil? Now they may not be as selfless as they present them to be, but they certainly aren't evil.

A catholic came to my dad's door once when he was younger and asked him to send a donation to the church because 'the priest needs a new car because god would want him to have style' or something along those lines.

They still cover up their kiddy diddling.

So is being catholic... Like you said, you can unregister, its just an annoying process. Which as New Mexico says, is a problem only because of the policy your country has in place. If thats how airtime and money is doled out, I would expect several religions like to make it as hard as difficult to unsubscribe.

I never accused you of linking church and state. I was just confused as to how this happens if church and state AREN'T linked. Are you telling me there is a government database linked with the catholic registry or something? I mean I would understand if they did the taxes through census results, that would be a logical linking. I am asking how the two get linked. How does the government know your ID # falls under a certain religion?

I read in some countries you do it on your tax forms. You check a box for what church you want the taxes to go towards. I think you can check none, though. In the TS case it sounds like the church goes to the government and says "look, we have x million baptismal records, therefore we have x million church members. Give us the subsidies and privileges according to these numbers." Not sure if there is a registry of some kind.

so does the general population. now granted people in those positions should absolutely not get away with it, and the only bad thing of Pope JP2's time was that he let it happen under his watch. I was specifically addressing the guy who said catholic churches do nothing but evil, which is blatantly false.

I'm not buying that for a second. Maybe a Jehovah's Witness or something, but it wasn't a Catholic and it wasn't for a priest.

the first way makes total sense. The second doesn't. Now I am not sure about European politics, but I can't imagine a government just taking a church's word on this. Not to mention the overlap of people who leave the catholic church, convert, get baptised under another religion, and then the government is giving out more money based on population than population it even has. surely they aren't so shortsighted?

He's an absolutist who lives in a very simple world. Totally paranoid and delusional who sees conspiracy in everything and reduces everything to simplistic concepts like good and evil. "It's evil!" Which sounds like something a preacher would say. He can't stand anything that requires any kind of complexity or nuance and can't be reduced to absolute concept. Everything is evil, fear everything, etc. Don't expect any facts from him.

Reading comprehension is not one of your best skills is it?

you might not be one to talk.

you were baptized. that the fuck do you think that means dude

you want to get out of the catholic church go get excommunicated

come on brad, use that big brain of yours, you a smart motherfucker

I would have thought census results would be the only way to do it.

Still Catholic. Still fighting the good fight.

Yeah, they have done horrible, disgusting things but there is also a lot to appreciate. I'm not a Christian but I love Christian/Catholic art, music, architecture, etc. throughout the ages. Listen to some Gregorian chant or medieval hymn with a backdrop of some great cathedral. Shit is amazing.

I don't really care if you buy it or not, but it happened. He hadn't even been to church in ages and was new-ish in the country (Canada) as well. The found his name on a list of Catholics as he had been baptized when he was a kid.

So is what I posted about 4 percent versus 10 percent. What's your response to that?

My response to your allegations of "sexual misconduct"?

Sexual misconduct is wide umbrella which includes slapping a coworker on the ass, as well as a trusted family friend (priest) anally raping a 2 year old.

Maybe you think those two are similar, but I got news for you, they are not.

The 4% of priests are all :eek::eek::eek:phile cases. The vast majority of the 10% you mentioned was adults and teenagers dealing with each other.

Then there is the issue of the Church protecting the :eek::eek::eek:s. The general public doesn't protect :eek::eek::eek:s, stupid.

Your a sick fuck for supporting this atrocious organization.

The general population doesn't have a giant organization behind them to cover up their misdeeds. He knew it was happening, and he didn't do anything. He even covered it up.

Sure, they do some good things....I won't argue that. But they have done some horrible things as well, such as not acknowledge transmission of AIDS/STI's can be mostly prevented by condoms and this bullshit that people shouldn't use contraception no matter what. They've done the world a great disservice doing things like that; the world would likely be far better off without them.

Lol. That is pretty crazy. People love to go on about "Murrica" and it's religion but it seems religion in these enlightened countries is messed up.

Are you saying if they never existed?

That's not to say all Catholic churches are like that...but this one was. Was a pretty good story though.
