Hes good when hes the hammer but a chicken when hes the nail.

I think that’s a misconception from the first fight with Serra.
He recovered rather nicely in every “nail” situation after that.
1) the Condit headkick we hear so much about.
Within 1 min 17 seconds GSP had already backed Condit into fence with his striking and then dumped him with another takedown.
2) despite the beating he took from Hendricks he still was the fresher and more active fighter in the 5th round. Which he clearly won.
3) Bisping. Bisping was starting to become the hammer on a GSP that hadn’t fought in 4 years and now in a new weight class. But a nasty hook and submission FINISH showed GSP responded rather well.
Not a lot of “nail” situations to support your argument here.

You may be right, in general, but I think there are those who can separate it out. I was always a huge Anderson fan... but no one was more delusional than the segment of his fan base who literally thought he could enter the Matrix whenever he chose and that he actually allowed Chael to beat him up for four and a half rounds so that he could pull off the sub win late in the fight.

In fact, just bringing it up will often get a bunch of replies offering "proof" from his doc that this is what Anderson did.
