Who developed the wall walk?

The absolute earliest example that I can personally remember was at UFC 12 Judgement Day when Kazuo Takahashi used it to gross advantage to cruise to a Unanimous Decision versus Wallid Ismael. It was the worst display of wall walking, IMHO, in UFC history.

Also one of the most bizarre, foul ridden (called or not...), genital destroyed crazy fights in UFC history.

<{danawhoah}> to the cage grab

<36> to the cage grab

But I think that was more wall and stall I don't know if this guy is intentionally trying to walk the cage, but great find. Could you imagine The Leach grabbing the fence like that as he defended that Khamzat TD.

For a long time, fighters would almost exclusively attempt to finish or sweep opponents from their guard when taken down. In the modern meta, a fighter will typically scoot to the fence and use it as a means to prop themselves up.

When did this become prevalent in the UFC and which fighter first displayed it in a fight?
Bisping was very good at this. Hard guy to keep down.

I always respected chuck's mentality on getting up. He didn't care if he had to eat some shots to get up he posted and got up asap every time. I dont get why guys who are clearly outclassed on the ground dont do the same. The risk of getting finished vs the risk of staying down should make the decision for you.

fence bless.

I don't know if he was the first one to do it but Chuck Liddell was the one who perfected it and made it famous.

I dunno but Khabib definitely figured out how to punish people for trying. I feel like that's something that doesn't get talked about much, but wall walking against him was just a good way to eat some punches and burn your gas tank
This. Khabib and other grapplers now use the fence to their advantage vs wall walkers. They end up trapping themselves there instead. It's pretty clear how they get trapped, but I won't give the details in case others haven't figured it out yet.

I'm not aware of anyone before Charles Liddell who did this consistently.
