We can reduce our dependents on the things we need being from other countries to almost nothing. Sure there will be things we want that need to be imported, which is ok.

Capitalism and Communism eventually go full circle and meet at totalitarianism, China is closer to that point now than the US.....and actually the only thing that's saved China is a quasi form of Capitalism it adopted in certain districts to allow it to trade with the Capitalist systems elsewhere.....

There are over 600 million people living in central and south america (areas where most immigrants come to US from) - if everyone there wanted to get to US you'd be done for - but no. you dont see brasilian or Chilean middle class risking their lives to come to US

Middle class Brazilians don't need too but I don't think their economy is doing so great, especially with their current government. I've spoken to a few middle class Brazilians and they've spoken about possibly moving abroad to places like Europe because of economic fears.
