Whiskey, War, Suicide, and Guns

...so I just need some stimulants and Cobalt on the Ipod and I'll be good. Bench attempts will probably go 325-352-374, deadlift 562-606-628+ depending on how I feel.

Perhaps you would like me to bring you a dose of my custom concoction? It's extraordinary.

I'm going 326-353-375.

I'm down for some Triple Threat. I've been dying to know about it.

What is this? There's a week and a half left. You should be maxing out until next wednesday at least.

You just better pray Tony The Ninja makes it under 198 so you don't get destroyed by my protege.

1/14/10 - Thursday - Upper

Push Press:
135x5
185x3
225x2x8

Press:
135x5
185x4x4

Chins:
BWx8,7,6,6,6

Shatloads of curls, shrugs, flyes, and pushdowns.

Just pissing around. I decided to try and get my upper body as pumped as possible. I lost the posedown to Tony.

Are you doing a meet this weekend or are all these well wishes for the 23rd? If the latter, then good luck with your 2010 Christmas shopping.

Also, can you explain to me how I pick weights for attempts? I believe it's in kilos, right? Do I have to be prepared to do math and whatnot? And are they going to let me tape my thumbs?

I just guess everyone is trying to fill me with positive thoughts two weeks out.

-As far as picking attempts, there is a lot of different schools of thought on the matter. The way most people suggest you do it for your first meet is:

Opener - This should about 90% of your max, something you can triple. It should be easy and a confidence builder.
2nd - This should be around or at a conservative PR over your last big single or meet PR. If you have maxed out lately, you probably will be going for a conservative PR on your third, so this might just be a stepping stone lift to build your total in case the 3rd lift fails. Whatever the case, it should be the biggest lift you are 100% confident in getting.
3rd - Go for broke.
Assuming you go 3/3, hitting what you want on your last attempt, it should work out to around 90%/95%/100%. I would have a goal weight to finish with, a set opener, and from there play it by ear. For example, my attempts for deadlift:

562 - This is easy weight and basically doing my last warm up on the platform. About 90% of my max.
606 - This is 5 pound meet PR and a single I know I can pull.
628 - This is a 3 pound all time PR. Depending on how everything else goes I will go higher if I feel it.

-The meet is in Kilos. They will have a loading chart for converting pounds. I would just start planning in kilos now.

-Yes, you can tape your thumbs.

Cool... thanks. I'm going to play deadlift super conservative to keep from doing anything stupid to my arm, but I suppose I'd better do a couple heavyish bench singles on Monday to get an idea of where I stand on that. I hope my pink singlet arrives in time.

We can share my singlet. I go commando.

I don't think you need to do any heavy singles on Monday. Just do some light benching to rest up. You have been doing Hepburn singles anyways and maxing out on the last set so you should have a good picture of what a single feels like to you. If you did 330x4 after 7 singles last week, I think you should open around there or slightly heavier and make a 10-15kg jump after that.

Will we both fit?

Maybe so. I guess I can probably figure pretty close to what I'm capable of after my first two attempts.

1/15/10 - Friday - GPP

DB Bench: 45'sx30x3
Inverted Row: BWx20x3

Jump Rope/Med Ball Slam: 100/10x10
CII Rower: 500mx3, 1:40-1:50

Always feels good afterwards. I'm going to start doing 2 days of cardiac development like I have been and add in a short day of intense stuff like this.

You should have done this instead:

Three rounds for time of:
Walk on hands, 100 feet
Hold handstand against wall for two minutes
15 Handstand push-ups
