When were flashlights invented??

I know the dry cell battery was invented in 1887 so I am going to guess based on that year that the first flashlights were most likely invented soon after, possibly in the late 1890's to first few years of the 1900's but I could be wrong

Batteries weren't commercial Ly ability til 1970 found that out tiday

So the batteries and flashlight I used in 1955 were top secret? The hardware store was selling me black market batteries?

My dad had the TL-122 flashlight he was issued in WWII.

They had flashlights in World War One in 1914.
