when kicking do you keep your hands up or throw your one down?

If your thai kicking, I dont give a damn if it is behind a 1,2 or at a distance, your swinging your arm and your not covering your face with both hands. Go on youtube and search Badr Hari, he uses 1,2 leg kick all the time and swings his arm, that combo about won him the K1 grand prix (DQ'd for stomping Bonjasky in the head).

The variation you may see is when a fighter swings more with his shoulders, elbow (see video) and keeps the arm bent. The whole premise for a thai kick is to turn your hips over and rotate through the kick, try to do that with your hands up by your face. Im sure there are some fighters, particularly in MMA that may throw kicks with there hands high......... however, not with any real power! more a slap to set up hands or takedowns. But a thai kick requires rotating through using the hips and shoulders, cant be done with both hands covering your face.

Shut the hell up, you are not Badr Hari and you are never going to be on his level, do thai kick and drop your arm back in close range and I will DROP YOU DEAD, like a BITCH.

Why don't you go learn some real MT, you know not from K1 videos maybe you will figure out that you use your hips to chop down at close range, only complete BITCH will swing his arm back when he is within cross range.

To OP, go ask professional trainer and not some idiots on the internet.

Everyone just smile and nod.

Let's do a quick pictorial summary, using the brilliant pictures of Mr Rob Cox, of muaythaifocus.com:

I'll just stop here. That's only the contents of two of his fight-night reports. These are all Lumpini fights.

Tell me these guys aren't training MT on a high enough level.

When they swing arm back in those pictures they are outside the range in all the cases I see.

Because as I was, and everyone with a clue has been saying, the best defence when you're throwing a kick is throwing it in an APPROPRIATE SITUATION. Which involves ideally a) setting the kick up with punches (see Badr Hari post) and b) throwing the kick at appropriate range (e.g. kicking range, not when within punching range.

Uhh wow really? So why do you have your panties in the bunch when I tell you you cover your head up when you WITHIN the range?

You are not badr hari, and a complete moron to bring him into this, if you setting up with punches you will move your weight and keep pressing then follow up with thai kick straight from back leg because if you know how to punch for shit and not slap someone or do fake non connecting punches then throw kick you will be within the range.

Unless you fighting some 12 year old kid once you go in the range with your combo that you want to follow up with a kick you will get hit back and guess what, you will get dropped when you do your little thai kick and swing your arm back making pretty much anything connect to your jaw.

*facepalm*

Aww cute, go watch some more videos and take a few circle jerk women MT classes.

Just to make you feel like a moron:

this man told and demonstrated this to me, I'm sure you would have told him Badr Hari doesn't cover his face up if he told you that.

Anyways, when you actually allowed to spar MT and figure out what range and counters are let daddy know.

Keyboard warrior you.

Nope im not Badr Hari, and you are probably right, i will never be on his level. However, you very well could be, assuming you know how to fight like he does......... maybe you do. But, just like Badr Hari, all the skill in the world will keep you in second place if you can't get your head game under control. Send me a message anytime, outside the public forum. I would be glad to discuss this with you.

Such as? Not trying to be rude, im just curious!

No worries Bro, didn't think you were being rude. I was referring to stuff I listed in my first post, like stepping off-angle, working a slip into the kick, or setting up kicks with punches (or any other attack) to screw up his position.

Unless you fighting some 12 year old kid once you go in the range with your combo that you want to follow up with a kick you will get hit back and guess what, you will get dropped when you do your little thai kick and swing your arm back making pretty much anything connect to your jaw.

I'm a little confused by this. If I throw a punch combo as a setup and end up in punching range, I'm probably not going to throw the kick. I generally thought the whole point to the setup is to get his hands up + get him to move. If that doesn't happen, then the setup failed and the kick isn't there. It seems pretty crazy to throw a kick when your opponent is in good position and stance to throw a counter, right?

I'm not claiming to train at a high level of MT, but I regularly spar with ammy/pro guys so I can at least claim to get punished severely when I make a mistake (and it happens a lot; I'm a slow learner). Also, I'm a tall fighter with long legs, which obviously impacts how I fight.

i would have thought chinos pics of the lumpinee fighters would have put an end to any doubts.
i guess you just cant convince some people

Only in sherdog...lol

In K-1fans this wouldn't even be an issue and have been stamped out from the beginning LOL.

Chill out tough guy, acting hardcore on the net isn't going to make whatever your point is valid. Get us youtube video's or whatever to back your point up.

looks like us muay thai guys are wrong about swinging the arm back.
that means my trainers are wrong to and they have had about 500 fights between them.
I have also trained with abidej sit hrun, muay thai fighter of the century, looks like he was wrong to.
muay thai fighter of the century, 400+ fights, and considered to have the most powerful kicks of all time, i'm a fool for listening to him.

Straight up this thread has trainwrecked.

I think we need a sherdog promotion. I would pay A LOT of money to see SSullivan vs Brooklyn BJJ in a muay thai fight to the death. Then we could rid the world of one more person who should have been aborted at birth.

All the 'hard men' ive ever encountered in my life, or people that deal with hard men, or bouncers or straight up thugs have said you should be scared when someone is perfectly calm, smiles, and nods at you, or goes... "ok mate, thanks, that's fine".

The punks are the one that mouth off, get abusive and act as if they know it all. Why? Because they don't, and they figure that's how someone who did know what they were doing would act? (cos they're pussies).

I don't think it's a coincidence that the people here who seem to train hard, post videos, and comment regarding all aspects of the game, have a fighter's mentality (or obv fight), that is they are humble and respectful at all times.

I see. Just read your earlier post, and yes that is exactly what I have been taught. Thanks.
