when kicking do you keep your hands up or throw your one down?

Punch counter, pfft? Ramon Dekkers says otherwise.

Anyways, throwing arm back is not really significant. You use your hips for power, take away the hips and throw your arm back all day and you will kick like a retard. Mostly you use arm back to regain balance, there is 0.1% chance you need to regain balance when you right there with your opponent as the chop will work pretty much all the time. Chop away and move, repeat.

And it seems most of posters lack basic education when I say close range, I mean.. 'close' range when you already inside your opponents range you can do 1+2 then cover and chop their leg down as you get out of range (or mix it with pushing them back, and throwing full ', OMG POWAR MT RULES THAI KICK WITH ARM BACK LOLZ' kick).

I don't really understand why you mentioned Ramon, I mean he either totally swings his arm when he kicks or at least keeps it somewhat bent but still not really tight to his head depending on the kick. I'll post this highlight just because it is awesome.

oh and a Buakaw highlight just because this one kicks ass too, and because BrooklynBjj is super duper hardcore.

Uhh, because he knocked thai fighters out with his hands? And yes, everyone on sherdog has speed, timing and power of Ramon Dekkers and Buakaw, sorry I forgot.

So, you have to have speed timing and power to throw a proper muay thai kick? I'm not following you. Maybe their proper technique is part of the reason they have so much power in their kicks and part of the reason so many muay thai trainers teach the kick that way. Nah, they're all idiots and don't know what they are doing. You are the real badass.

There was a good leg kicking tutorial done by Jeff Roufus posted on youtube I would advise you to watch.

BrooklynBjj honestly the reason so many on here are really talking shit to you isn't just because of your opinion on how to throw a proper kick but also the remarks you've made. For example, "do thai kick and drop your arm back in close range and I will DROP YOU DEAD, like a BITCH", I mean the whole toughguy over the internet is gay, it is even more gay on sherdog where people actually do train and fight. You only come across as someone who is trying to prove themself or something. Personally I'm not trying to prove shit in this thread, I know what I've been taught and I trust the gym I trained at and the trainers I had.

some people need to understand range, if a man is close enough to punch you, your to close to risk kicking him.
kick from the range you should be kicking from and kick properly, that means swinging the arm and stepping left and covering your face with the non swinging arm and you will not get countered.
different strikes for different ranges.

See, I don't think most people get that, if in close punches are more effective, a roundhouse within hook range would simply be way too close. In close is the time when you use hooks, uppercuts, elbows and knees. You don't jab someone when in close or throw a real cross when in close, so why would you throw a roundhouse kick?

Perhaps one of the greatest American Nak Muay (RIP) can explain this better.

Dailymotion - Fairtex Muay Thai - 02 - Body Kick, a video from Hater_Huntin. muay, thai, fairtex, instructional, kick

This instructional is more for a raw kick with very little setup.

and also, if the kick comes after a punch combination, there is even less need to step out 45 degrees.

Dude, wish I woulda said this a few pages back but thanks for this vid. Alex Gong is pretty much a muay thai legend in the bay are where I'm from. A few of my old trainers were friends with him.

It's not just that... It's that after he goes on his tough guy spree, he ignores all the questions about range and setting up your kicks (which is the basis pretty much ALL of us are using to support our argument).

Any answers, Mr. High-Level MT guy? I'm seriously interested in hearing them (no sarcasm).

why would anyone throw a kick at close range, thats what punches are for.

okay, okay, it's that too. I was trying to not be my usual drunken asshole. He is a toolbag and won't argue points people clearly put forth. Oh, and as waikru just said : why would anyone throw a kick at close range, thats what punches are for.

I think I said something a few posts back about that. If you are in close throws, hooks, uppercuts, elbows or knees, but never kicks.

So, because Ramon knocked out fighters with his hands YET threw his arm when kicking somehow proves your point? Sorry, I fail to understand your logic.

211 posts to point out something all muay thai fighters do, fuck me.

Yeah no worries, bro, you've had some good posts in this thread and I didn't intend to come off like I have any beef with you. I'm just confused as to why he only responds to tertiary points after being so "confident" about his argument. Very troll-ish.

At the end of the day, though, I'm more confident now about not putting my hand up than I was before this thread. So all is not lost LOL.
