I hate to make this correction, but The Empire Strikes Back didn't have a plot-twist, it was a surprise.

The difference between twists and surprises, are clues.

There was no clues of the twist before the twist was revealed, so it was a surprise.

The 6th Sense, and most options in the poll, had numerous clues throughout the film before the twist was revealed.

I have always wondered whether Lucas might have had some feeling of going in this direction back in the original as the way Obi Wab describes Vader betraying and murdering Anakin in retrospect does clearly give the impression he's bending the truth rather to me.

You could argue the twist in that film isn't Vaders reveal but rather than Luke actually loses to him and that's setup earlier in the film.

You're trying to be clever (and failing),

A plot twist is simply an unexpected development in the plot, no such condition on it as you're saying exists.

Imo 'I, AM YOUR FATHER' GOAT plot twist, end of...certainly most famous

I didn't vote for it, but gonna suggest Hereditary. At the beginning you think the movie is gonna be a ghost story about the dead grandma or something, that idea goes right out the window part way through the movie.

I’m not saying it’s on the level of some of those movies, but I think The Book of Eli needs a shout out. One of my favorite movies to rewatch, because u see the clues to the twist at the end throughout the entire movie.

According to George Lucas, "Darth" is a variation of "dark," while "Vader" means "father." (The Dutch word for "father" is "vader," but is pronounced differently; the German "vater" has a closer pronunciation to the name.)

State the difference between a suprise and a twist.

And Lucas's definitions are not in the original Star Wars (Ep4) or Empire (Ep5).

according to Wikipedia Luke finding out Vader is his dad is an anagnorisis.A type of plot twist

Anagnorisis, or discovery, is the protagonist's sudden recognition of their own or another character's true identity or nature.[6] Through this technique, previously unforeseen character information is revealed.

....

Why do you invite humiliation?

Oh, so according to wikipedia, surprises and twists are synonyms.

To be clear, clues are the difference between surprises and twists, because the audience's reaction is completely different.

Reaction to surprises - "Woah, no one could have seen that coming!

Reaction to twists - "Damn, I SHOULD have seen that coming! Because of __________, __________, and __________."

Or "I saw that coming, I put the clues together. I figured it out."

Again I still tend to think this scene with Obi Wan feels like a hint, the way he talks about Anakin and Vader seems like he's holding back and bending the truth a little...

I would still tend to say though that yeah Vader's reveal is more of a supprise and the actual twists in Empire are first Lando's betrayal and then that the film itself doesn't have a happy ending with Luke losing to Vader. Those are I think much more clearly setup earlier in the film.

The Usual Suspects.

The best part of that one is Kevin Spacey had a plot twist for all of us in real life too.
