Historically, Japan and China have contended for influence around Asia, with poor Korea getting caught in the middle. Both countries have a history of seeing themselves as the superior race. With Japan this of course changed drastically after WWII.

A lot of Koreans never forgave Japan for their actions in WWIi. Same with the Chinese. However, the young generations in Korea have begun to let that go and Japanese culture is pretty popular there now

Healthcare helps keep people safe.

Brazil, Ghana and Bolivia also have universal healthcare but they have too much diversity and consequently it doesn't work.
