What Is The Reason For MMA Fighters' Obsession With Tattoos?

They want to be unique like everybody else

Why do Shertards make pointless and idiotic threads?

We can do this all night

I don't have any tats not any desire to get one, but your need to create this thread just makes you look like an asshat.

All tattoos are stupid, but ones like the one on Conor's chest are just fucking retarded.

until relatively recently, lobsters were considered garbage and fed to slaves.

You care way too much.

Also, just think about it. Which profession is more likely to attract people with tats? Pro cage fightion, or an insurance salesman? Its really not that surprising.

Also, the best fighters tend to not have tats. Fedor. Anderson. BJ(at one time). Hughes. JDS.
Are you sure you want to make that claim? What about Cain, Jones, Aldo, GSP, Chuck, Wanderlei, Shogun etc. ?

You can look at any social group and come up with stats about that group that are askew compared to the general population.

More MMA fighters/fans have tattoos than the general population.
76% of NBA players are black, yet they only make up 14% of the USA population. Tennis and golf, on the other hand....

99% of Chinese restaurants are owned by Chinese people.
12% of Italian restaurants are owned by Italian people, and 1.8% of the dishes they prepare are actually Italian.
(OK, I made these last two ones up)

Because they have the freedom to get as many tats as they want and not have to give a shit about looking "professional" and all that other nonsense. That and tattoo places give out free tats as sponsorships.

TS is judgmental.

Absolutely. Making judgements is necessary for survival. If you decide to not stick a needle in your vein to shoot heroin you have made the judgement that using heroin wouldn't be a good idea for your continued survival and quality of life.

When you decide whether or not to pursue a relationship with a certain woman you make all sorts of judgements. If you didn't any woman would be equally appealing to you and you wouldn't care which woman you end up with. Actually a lot of you who don't like this thread or even understand why I made the thread probably don't make many judgements at all regarding drug use, women, or much else in life but I do. Quality of life matters to me.

I actually understand what you're saying here, and I'm not gonna pile on like everyone else in this thread... but I think the reason people are on you is because you're saying people with tattoos are inherently more foolish or something along those lines. I don't know, I don't have any and really don't plan on getting any, but I know people with some (my ex girlfriend), and as far as people went, they had/have a good head on their shoulders.

Of course now it's 'trendy' to a degree, so I get how you can kind of see it as trashy, which in all fairness a lot of them are... but I'd still advise you to be more open minded. Jones and Cain have tattoos, and they are successful breadwinners and seem to be providing a financially stable lifestyle for their families. Just because someone may be rough around the edges doesn't necessarily mean their morality isn't there....

Idk... I've thought about this too. Not my thing, but some of the most honest people I've known have been tatted and a little 'damaged' in a way, but aren't we all? The young folks getting the absolutely stupid ones will get them removed in the next 10-15 years, I'd bet anything that tattoo removal will take off soon... so there's that too

Yeah the best fighter do tend to have tattoos

I totally agree with TS.

In Japan there are many signs outside of bath houses clearly stating that those with tattoos are not allowed inside.

Tattoos are ugly, and the toughest fighters ever didn't even have any (Fedor, Saku, minowaman)

Just as many, if not more tough fighters DO have tattoos. People need to stop with this "the best/toughest fighters don't have them" because that is complete bull shit

I don't think I saw one fighter last night who didn't have tattoos. Even Joe Rogan has tattoos. His arms are absolutely covered with them. He's ruined his arms. They look so greasy and ugly with all that paint on them. Frankly I never saw the attraction of paying to get stabbed with ink. It looks so low class and just looks like hell. These young fighters might think they're being "cool" trying to look that way but when they get older they will be sorry for how undignified their tattoos make them look. Until fairly recently only the lowest classes of people got tattoos and for good reason.

Rogan as vitiligo and the tattoos help cover it up.

It's not just fighters, every dork in the world gets a tatoo and buys a Harley nowadays.

Personally I think tattoos are really tacky, but not getting any myself is the extent of my judgement. But it is interesting, tattoos are such a widespread thing in MMA I think it's interesting certain guys don't have any.

Wow, the tats hate is strong ITT.
Why do you care? We (ink enthusiasts) don't give a f*ck and won't judge you for not being tattooed, as long as you don't have a passive/aggressive attitude like TS and the other morons toward tattoo aficionados; and try to make yourself look better in comparison.

But mostly, it's weak people who don't fit in/were bullied in school who are very vocal about how "tattoos are shit!", because they want to be seen as "taking a stand" and "resist the trend not like all these sheep!" when you actually do nothing at all.
So I don't really care either way...

Most of you are also probably clueless about the body mod world and are jealous/hateful to try to make yourselves feel better. You are the true sheep.

It's your body, it's your temple, you do whatever you want with it, you can leave the walls plain or you can paint them, it's your choice and it has nothing to do with being bad-ass.

(twist: it does. We all know you aren't inked because you were too afraid to enter a tattoo saloon and get marked like a real man ^_^ Think you can handle the rite without freaking out and leaving the parlor in rightful shame)

30 years ago, rebellious people got tats, now, dorks and nerds get them to try to look tough.

I see so many girls with tattoos that its becoming more of a thing females do. Like getting your nails did
