What Is The Reason For MMA Fighters' Obsession With Tattoos?

Tattoos aren't for everyone. I like well made and stylish tattoos, not the tribal crap you tend to see on fighters.

Saying it's a low class thing is pretty retarded. Many royals and notable politicians have had tattoo's like Teddy Roosevelt and Winston Churchill.
I study in med school and I've come across many doctors and professors who have ink.

No, to the contrary I don't care about them at all. I just wonder what goes through a person's mind to do something to themselves like that. As I said, until recently only the lowest classes, the most uneducated and ignorant got tattoos. But I suppose if somebody is willing to sacrifice brain cells and risk permanent brain damage just so they can be a "star" for a few years of their life, then the rest of their life choices shouldn't be expected to be exactly brilliant either.

Why are you even on this site if you're subtly condemning the sport itself by implying that MMA fighters are only in it for fame?

I swear, sherdog incubates some of the most asinine people in existence.

The UFC should make tattoos against the rules. It's hurting the sports image. People are thinking the sport is composed of thugs. If a fighter doesn't go get laser tattoo removal on his own dime the UFC should hire the Hells Angels to burn it off with a hot muffler and then tear up their contract and garnish their wages to pay for that when they fight in WSOF.

Wait, actually I just remembered, who cares if they have tattoos TS

To distinguish themselves from the rest of the pack. Winning is key but sticking in peoples minds is just as important.

You must be fun at parties. You're view of people with tattoos is a joke seeing as a majority of the population has a tattoo. Christ, my grade 4 French teacher had two full sleeves, he would hide them at school obviously. My manager has a giant back tattoo. I'm pretty sure these people are not educated and ignorant people. I'm guessing you're using the what happens when you're old excuse. You're an ignorant child. ;)

LOL, 1 in 5 constitutes the majority? That's 20%, homie.

"Currently one in five U.S. adults has at least one tattoo (21%) which is up from the 16% and 14% who reported having a tattoo when this question was asked in 2003 and 2008, respectively."

Tattoos are often a sign of immaturity and/or drug use. Especially with women.

..but mostly, they're not something that people later regret taking, for some odd reason.

Matter of personal preference and mental weakness. Certainly not a matter of low/high class.

Also, the best fighters tend to not have tats. Fedor. Anderson. BJ(at one time). Hughes. JDS.

Crocop and Big Nog too?

They don't give a shit that you aren't tattooed, why do you care if they are TS?

Are you sure?

I too dislike tattoos TS. Sherdog gonna hate, but I stand beside you!

He should be able to voice his opinion. I got dubs, as well, for making an honest, gentle criticism towards a fighter.

What ever happened to freedom of speech?

Freedom of speech is not an exemption from the consequences.

I have 5 and may get 2 or 3 more but no more than that. They are a way to express yourself and they are fun.

I totally agree with TS.

In Japan there are many signs outside of bath houses clearly stating that those with tattoos are not allowed inside.

Tattoos are ugly, and the toughest fighters ever didn't even have any (Fedor, Saku, minowaman)

No, they are for attention whores who want to "express" themselves, even though nobody gives a shit.
