It was originally supposed to be a boxing match, but the commission wouldn't sanction it. So they changed it to mma last minute screwing over Mercer.

Tim was being disrespectful to Mercer during the press conference. This was supposed to be Sylvia's transition into boxing and using an old Ray Mercer as a stepping stone. We all saw happened afterwards.
