Keep winning. Keep getting finishes.
He's one of the most active champs and his progression is ridiculous.
Even if you don't like him, you've got to respect him and his growth. He's a complete fighter and he's now exciting.
Shame GSP's career ended that night..Tap to strikes to a journeyman who has a .500 record in the UFC and is much shorter than he is, then beat him in the rematch.
those stats done mean a lot. It’s just a stats fighting under a promotional banner.
look who’s he fought. All old and or small guys.
the same guys the ufc uses to build up the next fighter. His best win is Colby and burns. whothemaelf hasn’t beaten anyone and the exact same path to a title.
and burns struggled with an old ass wonder boy. Who is at the top due to the division being so poor.
for perspective Michael Chiesa is vying for a title
all time? needs to beat a fighter who was as dominant as matt hughes (twice), defend his title 5 more times, then jump up to middleweight and win that belt too. this, of course, is virtually impossible.
Matt Hughes lost to a 145lber in BJ Penn, that's all we need to know about that 'beast'.
Wow, so you think Usman is above GSP... so what... he's a top 3 GOAT as well? And you aren't a huge Usman fan?He already has imo . But I know that's super contestable and I'm not wedded to it . So to just put that aside I think 2-3 more wins especially if it's in spectacular fashion and he's done it . It's not just about the number of title defenses it's also about who you face and how you win and the objective abilities of a fighter as far as one can gage them . I really do think the sports on the verge of a new WW GOAT and I'm not even a huge Usman fan .
Also Colby vs Usman 1 is just one of the funnest fights I've ever seen it's awesome how exciting he's been lately whether or not that's just cause of the matchups he's been getting
The thread should've ended after this postWell, let's just compare and see the differencial.
Usman has been top 5 since the second half of 2018 => that's 3.5 years.
GSP has been top 5 from early 2004 to 2014 (at least) => that's 10 years.
Usman has been n°1 of the 170lbs since late 2018 => that's almost 3 years.
GSP has been n°1 of the 170lbs from 2007 to 2014, with arguably a gap of a year with the Matt Serra reign => that's at least 6 years.
Usman has beaten 7 opponents ranked in the top 10 at the moment of the fight and 6 ranked top 5. (rankings based on fightmatrix which in that case seems fair).
GSP beat 18 guys ranked top 10 with 14 being top 5.
As long izzy holds the belt I do not think those two will fight each other because of respect.Needs to beat Covington, best Edwards, besmirch Wonderboy, bounce Luque, and batter the MW title holder.
Few more wins against better quality opponents & to win the MW championship(which won't happen soon as he isn't going to fight Israel)
