What does Kamaru Usman need to do to surpass GSP as GOAT

It depends on if we're referring to Goat status as a product of skill, legacy, or both, as the two generally go hand in hand.

-In terms of skill, current Kamaru is either as good as GSP or better.
-In terms of legacy, it depends on what he does to his next 2-3 opponents. GSP has 12 title fight wins, but his legacy includes two losses and two SDs (one of which was very controversial). Usman on the other hand only has 5 title fight wins, but he's undefeated in the UFC, and the only blemish in that time period occurred when he faked two fouls when he fought Colby.
-In terms of both, I'd say GSP is still a bit ahead. However, if Kamaru goes out, finishes Colby in the rematch, and then finishes his next opponent after that, I'll probably put him a tad ahead.

Break his title defence record and win a title in another division. Of all the current champions I think he's the only guy who could actually do that, so we could see it

He should stop calling out LW journeymen. Dude actually tried to get a title defense vs Chiesa and Nate Diaz ffs

Do a deep dive and youll see that his resume is overrated. He beat a couple of guys that made their names off of gunshy Woodley and a couple of LW journeymen.

His next title defense should be against Jake Paul to keep the trend alive.

If he beats/dominates Colby, Luque & Leon/someone else, he undoubtedly surpasses GSP.

Usman doesn’t need to match GSP’s title fights to surpass him when he has no losses in the UFC, has more finishes & is more dominant. I don’t get how people don’t understand that.

People saying Usman needs to take the middleweight belt are disingenuous af. It would help, but it’s not necessary. GSP cherrypicked one eyed Bisping, it’s not like he beat Silva/Weidman/Rob.

GSP got finished - not just lost but finished - in 2 title fights. Once as a -700 favourite. That’s just as bad as Nate finishing Usman today. I don’t care if he avenged the loss, going 1-1 with Serra isn’t good lmfao. He also got finished by Hughes, should’ve lost to Hendricks and arguably lost to Penn.

GSP has 14 finishes
Usman has 9

this post makes sense

Beat GSP's title defense record and no more cherry picking the opponents like he did with Masvidal

When Usman fills a stadium in Africa I'll put him on GSP's level.

Competition hasn't been that great. Masvidal couldn't even make it to a title shot at LW. You could say that he's better at WW but I think he caught lightning in a bottle. Burns is legit but a little undersized but I'll give him that. Woodley was a shell of himself but Covington is legit. He has to keep winning at this point. I don't see anyone at WW aside from Leon who deserves a clear title shot or I can see getting one. GSP fought a few great wrestlers and if you compare their competition and the fact that GSP got the MW belt (even tho it was Bisping) he has a few years of domination.

Tap to strikes to a journeyman who has a .500 record in the UFC and is much shorter than he is, then beat him in the rematch.

He’s already done that by tapping out to a guy without a wiki page. So Usman is a greater quitter than GSP will ever be, that’s the one and only thing he’ll have over him.

Jorge should have never fought for the title, so in a way Usman’s record is padded

Records are there to be broken. If he gets more defenses and his overall record looks better. So like 6-7 more defenses. 4 more to pass up Hughes. He'd at least get on par then.

Usman is close to beating a couple of Andersons records.

Most wins in ufc before losing/retirement
Most consecutive wins
Most wins in his division
And more

He is less than 5 years of winning away from beating all of GSP, Jones, Anderson title fight and winning records and cementing himself as divisional goat and p4p goat

I was never a gsp fan at the time and certainly did t appreciate him

he has a long way to go. He has a long way to go to pass Matt Hughes.

it’s like saying what does cam Newton have to do to surpass joe Montana.

those stats done mean a lot. It’s just a stats fighting under a promotional banner.

look who’s he fought. All old and or small guys.

the same guys the ufc uses to build up the next fighter. His best win is Colby and burns. whothemaelf hasn’t beaten anyone and the exact same path to a title.

and burns struggled with an old ass wonder boy. Who is at the top due to the division being so poor.

for perspective Michael Chiesa is vying for a title
