Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Presidential immunity from official acts thing has to be while in office. Why can't they still go ahead with the "crimes" that were outside of his Presidential term?

The continued immunity is based on official acts while President. Now that he's going to be President again he'll have blanket immunity until the end of his term.
