What do you think about WMMA

I feel like WMMA has potential. The depth of competition is terrible, it's to the point I think almost any woman could be champ if she was young enough and trained long enough. Forget the power debate, but if you copied the technical moves used in wmma and men replicated them you would be calling it a bush league. I think a woman can develop Anderson Silva accuracy and not even need power and be the next star of the UFC. Gender has nothing to do with KOing someone on your back foot. There is potential for someone exciting to come along and open up wmma like Rousey.

Rousey had terrible striking

I have no issues at all with it when it's two high level fighters. How often do we get that though?

The caliber of fighters have improved some but slowly. Still has a very long way to go and there is nothing at the higher weight presently or on the horizon. I've liked watching the top names fight and many of the title fights. It's been force fed to fans to an extent thus some have pushed backed against it. They have to not include many on a card and hopefully not as a main event of a PPV.

The level of wmma has already risen. It will continue to rise.

What a shit premise

The overall talent level is abysmal on every level. There are 5-7 WMMA fighters worth watching and that's about it.

Most are like Waterman/Maycee Barber where they have moderate skills and moderate athleticism. We always talk about A level athletes for men's MMA, but women's MMA is even more lacking in this respect. Your average NCAA women's volleyball/soccer/softball/track team will have better athletes than many Top 10 WMMA fighters. How many women out there are actively pursuing a pro MMA career even? 10,000? I'd be surprised if it's even that high.

I don't want to watch women get pummeled and knotted up.

I don't care if women want to compete, more power to them but it's a comparatively inferior product to mma.

I find it stale it is so top heavy. When you talk about great MMA fighters who are women you have

Nunes
Wei Li
Holly Holm
Rose
Joanna
Ronda*

And out of those fighters above o would say only really Nunes and Weili have top tier athleticism and coordination.

Outside of these fighters a lot of the rest of WMMA fighters are uncoordinated? The fight WMMA fight with Oliveria was shockingly bad.

It's not so much about the power as some of the lighter mens divisions do not have much power. It is that some wmma fighters are just awkward, plod forward in silly stances, throw arm punches it is just not entertaining. Many are not skilled?

There are not enough solid WMMA fighters to make a single deep division. The woman that fought Nunes yesterday looked like she was wading through mud, had a weird stance and was a punching bag.

The UFC must know this and maybe just use WMMA to bulk out the cards?

When will the skill level in WMMA raise?

I don't think it has to be at the highest level to be legit but I do agree the fights are often hard to watch. Might not look very impressive sometimes but they would kick our asses.

At the top rank ... usually very fun.

All of Rondas fights were amazing. People hate on her but every fight she did was action packed for however long they lasted.

Nunes has some stinkers but also some super exciting ones.
Rose is hit or miss
Valentina is hit or miss
Joanna was always fun
Cyborg was always fun
Weili so far is also always fun as well

It's amazing at the highest level. Look at this striking by Pena

! Wow!

The thing that surprises me is clearly, in someway, WMMA sells. The majority of MMA fans seem to dislike it, or like a lot of people are saying in this thread, only like a few of the top fighters. Yet it's on almost every single card and is often on the main card, in the co-main, and even some crazy main events like Dern vs Hill.

Clearly it's making money, brining in a different demographic or something. Either that or they fear the backlash of removing it will hurt sales more than it will help. Either way WMMA is here to stay for the foreseeable future.
