What Did Shane Carwin Have Over Tank Abbott?

Shane Carwin was a great UFC HW recently and made his way to a title shot, which he almost won.

Now that I think of it, I can't really think of anything that Shane Carwin had that Tank Abbott didn't. Tank was a 290 lb NCAA wrestler with 1 punch KO power.

Could a prime Tank actually compete in today's division and win some fights? Be a top 10? 5? Contender?

Shane Carwin wasn't a drunken degenerate who wasted all his potential partying when he should have been training.

Tank Abbott was a POS and still is.

The biggest god damn hands that ever graced the end of a mans wrist.

That's Lesnars fist on the left

Hmmm I'm no handsize analyst but I think Brocks was twisted anticlockwise so you dont see the full size compared to Shane's. Also the top of Brocks is higher than Shane's, while Shane's hands are also swollen in the gloves. Palm shot always makes hands look bigger too. I think Brock got shafted here

Not that it matters, but Carwin is wearing a glove which spreads the fingers out. He'd also just been punching someone in the face so his hand was probably swollen to an extent.
The glove and unevenness of their hands gives the illusion Carwins hands are way bigger when theyre actually about the same size.

cmon guys, I remember watching Dana talk before ufc 116 and he said Shanes hands are indeed bigger. pretty much confirmed, agreed not that it matters, just a fact stop acting like Brock is you dad ;)

For all the talk about Tank's wrestling pedigree by the OP I highly doubt Don Frye could have taken Shane Carwin down. Carwin generates more power in a shorter distance than any fighter I've ever seen, but Tank certainly had loads of KO power too. Carwin had a hell of a chin as we saw in the JDS fight and Tank never really showed a great chin, and he was never in shape either. Really Tank was more of a just a street brawler that kind of epitomized the days of the early UFC, while Carwin was a much more polished version and what Tank might could have been if he actually trained.

UH Shane could actually throw a proper 1-2.

Tank never threw anything but haymakers. And yes they could take someone's head off.

But Carwin had more skill.

Carwin's hands are huge, MM could probably fingerbar them.

Plus his hand has his fingers facing the camera. Look at your hand, make a fist and look at the back knuckle part of the hand like Lesnars and then look at the side showing your fingers...The side showing your fingers looks wider.
No it doesn't, what's wrong with my fists? <24>

Tank slipped in that fight against Frye. Derp.

Tank had good boxing for a big man. He was outboxing the shit out of Frye until he slipped.

You have no clue in what you are talking about.

Man, Tank was absolute GARBAGE!!! Just go watch his old fights and watch what happened when he fought anyone remotely good. Tank was slow, swung his punches like a grizzly bear taking a swipe at a slab of beef, had no gas tank, and mentally folded when the going got tough on multiple occasions. He was scary to look at, and he was more than capable of laying a beat down on plumbers and framers, but he was no good at MMA. Hell of a show-man, though. Threads like these make me feel very old and highlight the fact that very few of today's fans were watching the sport back in the early 90's. Actually, I suspect a good deal of today's fan base wasn't even alive in the mid-90's. Tank sucked and anyone that would tell you different has not watched the guy's fights.

Carwin pushed Mir's shit back. There, that's something else Tank didn't have.

Nothing. It's called an optical illusion.

That is my point.
And my point was that this optical illusion doesn't work on me, since my fists look the same size when postured like that.
But I broke my fists/fingers several times, so it might play a part.
Or I'm missing you point, my bad if that's the case. <6>

It's been a long time since I watched that fight, so my bad if he did, but I KNOW he got taken down by Severn and I really don't think he would have been able to take Carwin down either, regardless the rest of my post still stands but feel free to keep being a smug prick.

Oh so i was correct about you not having a clue in what you're talking about since you actually admitted it. So why the name calling at the end?

Are you 13 years old?
