What Did Shane Carwin Have Over Tank Abbott?

Shane Carwin was a great UFC HW recently and made his way to a title shot, which he almost won.

Now that I think of it, I can't really think of anything that Shane Carwin had that Tank Abbott didn't. Tank was a 290 lb NCAA wrestler with 1 punch KO power.

Could a prime Tank actually compete in today's division and win some fights? Be a top 10? 5? Contender?

Lol are you fucking kidding or what?

How about the fact that Carwin trained out of a world class gym and Tank literally came in off the streets with a wrestling background. Let's try that for starters.

Shane carwin is probably the most overated fighter ever lol.

He had big power in the HW division which usually means of you land you win. But...his skillset was not that good and the skills of guys now are way better. And i like carwin.

Which heavyweights are so much better than Carwin? Prime Carwin would be a current top 10 guy. Don't forget that guys like Derrick Lewis are in the top 10 currently.

bigger and taller with similar tools.

"Prime" Tank wasn't too successful in his own time. How would he do today? About as well as CM Punk.

Abbott was a pioneer that had a style that was reminiscent of Carwin's, but that's where it ends.

Carwin was on a higher level.

Carwin was obviously a much better wrestler than Tank but honestly I think he does get a bit overrated based on a limited run. For me his standup was always VERY iffy indeed, yeah he caught Gonzaga getting over aggressive but that was one fight in which he was almost finished himself even more quickly, had he stuck around longer I think he'd have been on the wrong end of a lot of beatdowns personally, maybe with the odd KO win mixed in.

Even the JDS fight I think perhaps favoured Carwin slightly in that I think Jnr has often had a bit of a problem finishing opponents he can't drop with one punch. Against a few other power hitter HW's down the years(Crocop, Hunt, Fedor, Sergei, ALeks, Arlovski, Overeem, Stipe, etc) I don't think he'd survive unless he got a quick upset KO or takedown.

Didn't Tank use to bench 600 pounds and slap Tito around in sparring? That's kinda like Carwin's training, lifting and KOing Schaub.

LOL at Tank sparring.
The night before his fight, after his 4th margarita, maybe he suddenly realized he had a fight the next day, and suddenly started slapping Tito to get ready.
