What books are you reading?

I have read these books several times since a teenager, and they are among my favorite ever ones to read.

If you havent, GET ON IT

I really enjoyed Shogun but I heard the quality dropped off with the books that followed?

Shogun is the best book, but I fucking LOVE them ALL.

If you loved shogun there's just no way you won't love the rest IMHO. Other than King Rat these are all the same size of shogun. Huge books. And I've read them all many times.

Just started "Don't Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" by Philip K Dick. Slow start, I'm hoping once the story kicks in it'll draw me in.

They say it's coming in the mail tomorrow.
It's a book I have wanted to read for a while now. Since my homeland Australia is a pretty young nation with respect to America, etc., I think it would be nice to read what Aussie thinkers could do to make the economy, society and politics in Australia better.9781763662124.jpg

looks interesting

I'm getting this book in instalments (1 chapter every 2 weeks) by Carl Dixon who has played in bands like Guess Who, Coney Hatchet (another Canadian band) and other outfits. I can't wait to read the 1st chapter......

Die Trying.

It is Jack Reacher #2. I'm going to read them all in order. Just finished the first, killing floor. That was a fun read

So, let's talk about a book that I finished reading last week.
The book is the "infamous" PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK by Australian writer Joan Lindsay. This book inspired Peter Weir to make a film in the 70s after thorough research into this strange Aussie mystery. Now this book /film 🎥 is also a TV series. Wow, it has come a loooooong way !! :)
I'd like to mention firmly that many critics and smart-asses have repeatedly said down the years that the story about the mysterious disappearance of a group of schoolgirls from a local and prestigious girls'
school near Melbourne (Hanging Rock) was only a figment of Lindsay's imagination!! Not true !!! The story is based on the REAL event which took place in the 19th C. Those girls DID indeed disappear leaving no trace at all !! Only one girl "survived" and walked into the local police station in a deep state of total amnesia - she never revealed what happened !
What's more, the mystery was fuelled by the existence of a notorious last chapter (only in manuscript form) where Lindsay is said to reveal the solution to what happened to the girls. Many stories have circulated since the publication of the book as what made the girls disappear: aliens, monsters, invisible beings, other engulfing dimensions, spirits, etc. etc. - only the lost last chapter can tell. This story has also been acknowledged and confirmed by Weir and his team of investigators !!! I don't think Weir would have invested time and resources into something fake or invented !!!
Moreover, as I always say, Australia is a very primitive land and the Aboriginals (animists) believe there are spirits or supernatural beings near Hanging Rock;
I have visited Hanging Rock myself umpteen times and every time I go there and see that strange rock hanging onto another rock defying all the rules of physics, I can feel the strange magic and sensation of primitive Australia running in my veins !!! Only people who were born and grew up Down Under can fully understand what I'm talking about.
Word :):).
Oh by the way, Weir and other writers and scientists are continuing to search for that mysterious lost chapter which, seemingly, Lindsay took to her grave - she died before she could say what happened to it - a mystery within a mystery!!!
Word !

I used to live near a spot called Hanging Rock. You had to wait for oncoming traffic to pass before you could drive past. A few years ago they changed the road and now you no longer have to wait.

Uhhmmm, I don't think we're talking about the same Hanging Rock here.....you seem to be referring to a historical location somewhere in the U.S. I believe; looks like a nice area by the way !! :):). The Hanging Rock the book indicates is located in the Aussie outback, roughly inland south-west from Melbourne, Victoria Australia :)

I knew what you meant I just wanted to share something of a similar name that your post reminded me of.

I bought this biography quite a long time ago directly from Victoria Price's website; I got to know and become acquainted with Vincent Price's only daughter at the various conferences, meetings and get-togethers she and her foundation organizes around the world. She is a lovely lady who fosters her great dad's legacy as a man, actor, philosopher and cook. This book really digs into his life as a father, friend and superb actor. Victoria loved her daddy - perhaps more than she did her mom - and nurtures great respect for the man and actor Vincent Price.
He is my absolute fav American actor and I also love his audio reading sessions of famous authors like E.A.Poe among others. If you like Vincent Price and his movies, what better book to read than the bio written by Victoria Price ??
