So, let's talk about a book that I finished reading last week.
The book is the "infamous" PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK by Australian writer Joan Lindsay. This book inspired Peter Weir to make a film in the 70s after thorough research into this strange Aussie mystery. Now this book /film

is also a TV series. Wow, it has come a loooooong way !!

I'd like to mention firmly that many critics and smart-asses have repeatedly said down the years that the story about the mysterious disappearance of a group of schoolgirls from a local and prestigious girls'
school near Melbourne (Hanging Rock) was only a figment of Lindsay's imagination!! Not true !!! The story is based on the REAL event which took place in the 19th C. Those girls DID indeed disappear leaving no trace at all !! Only one girl "survived" and walked into the local police station in a deep state of total amnesia - she never revealed what happened !
What's more, the mystery was fuelled by the existence of a notorious last chapter (only in manuscript form) where Lindsay is said to reveal the solution to what happened to the girls. Many stories have circulated since the publication of the book as what made the girls disappear: aliens, monsters, invisible beings, other engulfing dimensions, spirits, etc. etc. - only the lost last chapter can tell. This story has also been acknowledged and confirmed by Weir and his team of investigators !!! I don't think Weir would have invested time and resources into something fake or invented !!!
Moreover, as I always say, Australia is a very primitive land and the Aboriginals (animists) believe there are spirits or supernatural beings near Hanging Rock;
I have visited Hanging Rock myself umpteen times and every time I go there and see that strange rock hanging onto another rock defying all the rules of physics, I can feel the strange magic and sensation of primitive Australia running in my veins !!! Only people who were born and grew up Down Under can fully understand what I'm talking about.

.
Oh by the way, Weir and other writers and scientists are continuing to search for that mysterious lost chapter which, seemingly, Lindsay took to her grave - she died before she could say what happened to it - a mystery within a mystery!!!
