Good idea, just made it. I bumped the old discussion a week or so ago but it didn't get any conversation started. Maybe it will help having the new title in the thread name.
Pros for me were story (really enjoyed it) and scoring, which was this industrial-synthwave mixtape – but I think they could have leant harder into it instead of staying on the limper, elevator-music side of those genres.
Clocked in around 50h but even with so much in-world still to do, none of it worth it outside early-game novelty.
Cons for me were enemy variety (with like three enemy movesets the whole game, man, WTF) and then weapon/combat systems, which also proved an illusion: one-handed, two-handed, slash, blunt, bleed, freeze, electrify, burn....same crap; likewise for skills.
I did this double-legged jumpkick move the whole game and it slaughtered. Strategy near nil. Stealth, an afterthought.
I'd rather this game be smaller but with more originality than its current size and so much asset, enviro copy-paste. I largely knew floor layouts and drawer contents by the end of the game despite never having looted that particular building or desk before. Joy-zapper, that.
One of the game's principal enemy factions – the Renegades – all speak like Bobcat Goldthwait from Police Academy too, which was silly-billy AF.
Fun game for 40h-ish but am done and uninstalling. Average playtime to 100 DL2 is 500h, which screams 10x bloat, IMO. Think on that.
Below is the poppy closing credits song when you beat the game. Loved it:
Finished up Stalker 2 this morning. Really enjoyed the early and mid game, but by the end game I felt like it overstayed its welcome. Was doing all of the side content and stashes, but ditched it all to complete the story towards the end and rounded out at just over 80 hours, and left a ton of stuff to find.
I pretty much run this same course with every open world game though. Start strong completing everything, get a little to over powered, lose steam and struggle to finish.
I don't know what took me so long, but I'm finally playing Skyrim for the first time.
Well, kind of playing right now, mostly modding. This game is a bit outdated, however there are so many mods out there you can bring it closer to modern.
With graphic mods like texture replacements, ENB with parallax, and mesh replacements it makes a massive difference in the visuals. Parallax is fucking awesome it makes 2d textures look like 3d objects.
Of course I didn't stop there, I basically have the combat similar to Elden Ring. Added lock on, separate heavy attack button with advancing strikes that can combo and cancel, side step and roll, and a camera position that makes it like a modern third person game that has the character centered and can spin them around with the left stick. It's SOOO much better now, you aren't skating around on ice anymore throwing strikes in the same position.
Still a lot more to do with the mods before I continue playing through it. It's extremely time consuming and frustrating at times but worth the effort.
So I was re-downloading all the updates for Witcher3 and decided to check out whats for sale online for cheap, and I saw three games that intrigued me -
Doom 1&2 - $4
Self-explanatory
Disco Elysium Final Cut - $12
I've never played this despite hearing alot about it over the years. What sold me on this is its now fully VOed.
Trepang2 - $15
Guys, you're going to have to explain why I've never heard of this.
The F.E.A.R. spiritual successor was released 14 months ago, and no one talked about it?
This is actually the first time I've ever held a PS5 controller and i got to say, first impressions aren't good. Feels kinda bulky and too slick. Anyway i'm sure i'll get used to it.
I'm resisting the urge to dive into Bloodborne or Demon Souls until i get back from vacation next month. Probably gonna start with Spiderman 2 and Helldivers 2. Also looking forward to the Nioh games, Forbidden West, Black Myth Wukong, Ragnorak and a few other exclusives.
I also picked up a game called Conscript to play on the Switch while on vacation. WW1 top down shooter. I've not really enjoyed many games on the Switch but i love the WW1 setting so hopefully it should be good enough to pass the time while flying

I've been playing it on SeriesX, and while I bet it's awesome on PC it has a lack of polish in regards to the movement and.... one aspect of the controls that are near unforgivable.
For XBox FPS games using the left-trigger, or L2 for Playstation, on the controllers as a 'aim down sights' button has been the standard for... ever since Call Of Duty became a hit on consoles, so for nearly 2 decades.
And Trepang2 doesn't have that, except for a long-range rifle. Doesn't seem like a big deal at first glance except for the fact the X/Y axis movement isn't very smooth, the weapons aren't very accurate, so you're basically hip-firing throughout the entirety of the game.

Yeah I played it on PC. While I didn't have the ADS issue on mouse/keyboard, I definitely felt it was a little cumbersome in terms of movement and the weapons could be frustratingly spotty in terms of accuracy. I still enjoyed it, but I definitely noticed these issues too. With some fine-tuning on these issues it could have been a 10

Well, it’s part of the “boomer shooter” genre that aims to emulate the experience of old school shooters. Boomer shooters almost universally do not have aiming down sights. This game in particular seeks to emulate FEAR which itself did not have ADS.

This is what I always do. Just did the same thing with Dying LIght 2. Was enjoying going into all the houses, side quest, etc. Midway I was done and just rushed through the story. The story was good and got better as I went on though so I will commend them for that at least.
Didn't know what to play next but @Zazen reminded me of the Ys series and I decided instead of jumping in at 10 I would just jump in at 8 which is already on Extra. So far I'm really enjoying it. Reminds me of the old school RPG action adventure games I would play like Landstalker and Beyond Oasis.

I've really enjoyed the Ys games. Haven't played the newest one that came out a few years ago, but my favorite has been Ys 7. 8 was really good but was a little let down with the 9. World felt really small being isolated in the main castle area with a few excursions outside.
Just started playing Enshrouded with my daughter. Pretty polished open world survival. Would compare it with Valheim, but better graphics and not nearly as punishing.
Think I'm going to start Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth as my next big game.

Nice I've heard 9 was a let down to some people. Not sure how I'll feel about it but I do plan to try it out sooner or later. Probably not right after 8 though as I tend to try and mix it up as much as I can after each game.
Can't wait until my son is old enough to start playing more mature games like that with me. Right now he will play them but you can tell he doesn't know what he's doing really and is not into that much. We tried Diablo 4 and while he had fun he never really bothered me to go and play with him. Started It takes two last week and this kid wont get off my back about it. Every day it's "I hope we can play it takes two today, dad". He seems to love it so I guess I'll be buying the next game that guy is releasing soon that I saw at the TGAs. I am enjoying the game as well.
