what are some not so popular, high paying careers?

yeah a mate works on oil rigs doing underwater welding and repairs n shit, he prolly pockets 10k a wk

Skilled trades on oil rigs is great way to bank, because it's horribly nasty, dirty work that requires a lot of skill, days on end of almost constant work, and significant personal risk. But you're well compensated for all those things.

Electricians who will work on tall towers, especially during storms and holidays can make a lot too. Many skilled trades if you're willing to work long hours under dangerous conditions.

I am, but I dropped out of university in the first year, so I only have my high school diploma.
But there's no point in going through the education system, only to do something you don't like as much, and make far less money with.

Why can it shorten your life span?

Are u an online player? I used to make bank before they shut down party poker.

Gas plant work is also good, not as shitty as having to work the rigs. If you are in the US look for work as a roustabout....then get trained to be a pumper.

From what i've experienced yes the hours are long but you end up doing next to nothing and dragging out jobs that would normally take an hour and make it last a 12 hour shift. Breaks every hour, 2 hour lunch breaks etc but obviously it's not always the case, sometimes there's a push to get stuff done, It may even be different where you're from though.

I totally agree with the risk i absolutely hate getting the helicopters, The safety record for the offshore choppers in Britain is pretty poor so it's constantly on the news here. There was a big enquiry going on about why ours crash far more often than other sectors in the North Sea(Norway, Denmark etc). So there are changes coming in soon.

funeral director/embalmer

I don't think people realize what a lucrative business that is. A friend of my families started his own funeral home and has built it up to owning 4 or 5 and he's loaded. A funeral can range anywhere from 2-5K and it's not uncommon to have 2 a day most of the time at his places. Funeral homes creep me out though, it would suck going to one everyday as your job.

Yes.
I don't live anywhere near a casino with big games and you'd have to play much bigger live, to compensate for the lack of volume.

What sites do u play on? Do u know anything about carbonpoker?

I do taxes every year...

some jobs that take me aback in terms of how much money is earned are Plumbers and Fridge Mechanics...

And Pharmaceutical sales...

I play online as well, I usually just do $1-$5 tourney's. I also play at a casino now and then. I find online there tends to be a completely different set of odds, do you find this as well? Online I have seen some crazy hands, stuff that in a real setting only happens once in a while, in the span of an hour. What sites do you use? I have been looking for a different one..

Most jobs that pay well but aren't popular aren't popular for a reason...

But, go to the oil rigs if you want lots of money without a whit of education. Do it in some cold place arsehole of the world and you can make six figures without even a highschool education. You will quickly start to hate your life, and it'll probably give you an appreciation for things other than money though.

Very interesting thread!

I would say that urban firefighter and commercial loan broker are two jobs that pay a ridiculous amount of money relative to what they entail.

Without an education or trade, there's very few jobs you can get offshore. I haven't been doing it very long but most people i know that have did it for years can't go back to working onshore because of the pay and all the time off. You're essentially getting a 2 week holiday every month.

Pharmaceutical Reps make bank

It seems lke the requirements are to have some sort of Bachelors degree in Biology or Chemistry and to be a super hot chick with big cans.

they are either really hot young chicks or old men.. i dated one for a little bit and she was crazy in bed

I know I'm repeating myself a little, but I really have to throw this out there.

I SERIOUSLY encourage any young guys to look into camp work on the oil sites. The way the schedules work, you spend two-thirds to three-quarters living for free on site, and the opposite time living at home.

That means that, for the year that you work, you will pull down about 100,000 (or more) and your only expenses will be approximately 25% of what your current living expenses are. For most young guys, that is a ridiculous amount of savings. Theoretically, if you commit to living like a college student with a couple bros in your down time, you could bank about 90,000 in one year of work. After that, you could keep going, travel the world, cover yourself in greased-up island girls, whatever. Want to spend a year training in Thailand? With 90,000 in your back pocket, you could spend a decade.

A lot of guys develop bad spending habits and blow all their coin on coke habits, pricey toys and too much house, but if you're smart, you could use this to fast-track your way to early retirement. Or live your dream life every second year while banking tons of cash.

Airline pilot is not a high paying job anymore, at least not at first. Some of the older experienced guys make good cash, but some of the newer pilots are on food stamps. I'm not an expert on the field, just have read some articles. It's not like most people think.

WTF does newbie pay have to do with if it's a high-paying job or not?

There's a shortage of pilots, if you stick with it you'll be making very good $$ in not much time at all.

Anything involving extreme cold and/or high risk of death.
