The UFC suddenly decided to switch back to the old gloves. Jones is probably the most prolific eye-poker in MMA history, and Chris Weidman won his last fight with a gameplan of pure eye pokes, including a devastating finish from a 1-2 eyepoke combo. Both fighters are in good standing with the UFC.

Could these two fighters have gone to Dana and requested the old gloves be brought back to help facilitate their eyepoke-heavy gameplans?

Haha I was thinking the same thing. Dana actually said there were a lot of complaints about the new gloves and they will be going back to the old gloves for now on.

nah this could backfire on Jones. DC raked stipe eyes in the first fight. So Stipe fixed his gameplan and hit DC with a full power eye stab nearly taking out his eye off the socket. Jonny boy better be careful to not push his luck

Jones might have watched the tape and seen that DC effectively set up a KO against Stipe by using eyepokes. Stipe won’t be able to retaliate against Jones by using his own eye pokes because of Jones’ extreme reach. Stipe’s t-rex arms will fall short and Jones will be able to land eyepokes all day long.

It can't be a coincidence. Moreso for Jones, I don't think the UFC cares too much about Wideman winning but when it comes to Jones, they'll give him every advantage they can. Maybe even allowing an extra picogram or two.
