Was Ryan Couture Thrown to the Wolves?

Noon got ripped off in the Couture fight.

Not bashing anyone but Couture has not looked elite in his fights. He shouldn't have gotten Pearson 1st.

exactly.

I mean, look at the Pearson/G-Sot fight. G-Sot is no joke, top fighter but Pearson anihilated him in his own backyard and looked mad impressive doing so!

I'm on a phone so I ain't searching for shit. Looks like most people here think Pearson is a top lw because he is in the UFC and beat a gsot who has been on a bad streak lately. Still don't see Pearson as a wolf nor Pearson vs Couture a mismatch. Pearson proved himself the superior fighter. Going from Noons to Pearson seems fine. I disagree with some.on that top 50 list. I'll make my argument when I'm not posting from a phone.

Pearson was/is or has been overrated. And Masvidal to Pearson is in no way a step-up really.

But what is your issue with that list? Do you feel Matt Ricehouse should be on it or something?

Does anyone realize that Couture's record was 5-1 heading into this fight? Of course he was thrown to the wolves. His awkward style got him a "win" over Noons but even that fight didn't make any sense. This fight was a waste in my opinion. Couture is an up and comer, isn't that experienced, and should have been treated as such.

just what you want for your son isn't it? lol not in my wildest fuckin dreams man

What happened to Couture is nothing new.

I was telling my mate American mate as we were watching that Pearson's superior boxing was gonna destroy Couture and leave him in a pile on the floor ... and I was proven right.

Wow, you must be an MMA expert.

Kind of agree, kind of disagree.

For a co-main event, we really don't see matches like that with a season UFC vet and a guy with an unimpressive resume and just 6 pro fights (and not even undefeated). That's why people think Dana was trying to punish Randy. Put his son in a high profile fight that he didn't belong in out of spite. You continue to rally on this "What if his name wasn't Couture? Would anyone care?" thing. And, to that, I say that no one would care.....because he wouldn't be fighting Ross Pearson. He'd be fighting Jeremy Larsen or Joe Proctor on the prelims. It's obvious Couture is no star in the making, so it's very logical to see that his was a vengeance bout.

If Dana really wanted to punish Couture it would have been against someone a bit more guaranteed to win than Pearson.

Please.

You thought there was a chance Couture could beat Pearson? Have you seen Ryan Couture fight?

I like how the picture shows a clearly illegal shot.

Pearson is a good fighter, but he's not exactly "elite." He did look very good against G-Sot, but he had lost 3 of 5 before that, including being stopped twice in that span. And G-Sot was on a 2-fight losing streak going into the Pearson fight as well, so it wasn't like Pearson was coming off a win over some juggernaut. I don't know that I'd consider Pearson any more highly regarded than Noons, Couture's last opponent (although I did think Noons should have gotten the win).

Me too, apart from the fact that it isn't.

I thought a 2-1 Thierry Sokoudjou was sure loss against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. That was an attitude adjustment for me for going from "he has no chance" to "he has a shot" when looking at fights.

Pearson is a mid level lightweight.
Noons was a mid level lightweight reaching the end of his career.
Couture is a low level lightweight.

What does this teach us?
Nick Diaz aint that good ;P
I'm taking the piss, before you sperg out.

I'm saying Dana fed Couture to Pearson so Couture would get his ass whipped. Obviously, Couture could have pulled off an upset but that fight was pretty much a lock for Pearson based on what either fighter had shown up until that point.

I think the Sokoudjou comparison is poor because little to nothing was known about him at the time. The Pearson fight was put together with purpose. They knew Pearson would eat Couture's lunch. Couture's been a known commodity for a few years now.

Bullshit. People knew that Sokoudjou lost to Texeira.

The name Couture is too valuable to piss away in a vendetta. As petty as Dana can be, he has consistently shown that he is willing to put away his personal issues for the sake of making the UFC money.

Considering the LW division is easily the most stacked division in MMA, I reckon Ross Pearson is in the fringes of being top 10 and will give anyone a decent fight in that top 10.
That's crazy talk. Ross probably wasn't even top 30 when he dropped to FW. He had dropped two of his last three fights to Cole Miller and Edson Barboza. Since moving back up after an unsuccessful stint at FW he has a meaningless win over Couture(which he managed to lose the first round in) and washed up Sotiropoulos that had just been knocked out by Ross' boxing coach. Look what RDA did to George and he still hasn't cracked the top 15 himself. Realistically Ross should probably be ranked somewhere in the twenties and I think that's pretty close to his true place in the division. And the guy still hasn't fought a single wrestler in the UFC BTW.

He carries a last name that paints a target on his back.
