Was O'Malley "extra" locked in this fight?

You can be as locked in as you like changing parts of your life and preparation for a fight, but in the end it’s all skillset. I’ve always thought O’Malleys ground game was questionable but a lot of fans glossed over it, claiming he’s black belt level, trains under the Mendes brothers(wrong Mendes by the way).

Weidman overall but merab will surpass him.
I really wish ppl would judge fighters career's at the end instead of in the middle.

Not saying merab isn't amazing but he hasn't had a long career and hasn't fought every style yet.
We've seen dominant champs before suddenly get exposed as hard as it is to imagine anyone doing that to merab atm.

Semen retention is proven the worst base for MMA.
Lol omg please tell me he's not on that idiotic bandwagon. Of all the stupid shit to be embraced by Qanon dipshits, that's the stupidest.

Nah. Merab had a 40% takedown percentage in the first fight, 41% in the rematch. Statistically the only improvement was on Merab's side, even though I would chalk that up to margin of error.

Merab had 6 of 15 takedowns in the first fight over 25 minutes.
Merab had 5 of 12 takedowns in the rematch over 15 minutes.

Almost as many takedowns in 10 less minutes. This is also only Merab's 2nd win by finish in the UFC. The other was a TKO over Moraes. Merab has only finished guys who have finished Aljo.
People were so desperate for Sean to win they are inventing narratives

Good data

Damn. I'm old. What the fuck does ""extra" locked" mean?

Honestly, he didn't even sound confident, I believe he took this fight for the money, of course he prepared, had a gameplan etc but I believe he knew his chances were pretty low.

When Merab wrapped his arms around Sean's neck, they were locked in. When Suga rolled, they became extra locked.

Good data
UFCSTATS is a great resource for fact checking peoples fight vibes. Merab has a career takedown accuracy of 35%, his fights against O'Malley he outperformed that average. People seam to remember Merab fights like he gets a takedown every time he tries, but the reality is, he soft attempts many and tries to finish the takedown attempts that bear fruit. It's part of his pressure game. He threatens with them, so his attempts are much higher than his successes. We saw it in this fight where her switched takedowns against the cage a couple times. That looked like a couple attempts to me, if I was tabulating, but none were a success and he landed some shots while doing them.

At the very least, Sean showed that nofap and quitting weed do not have a performance enhancing effect.

Weed is a potent anti-inflammatory and the cannabinoid receptors have multiple effects on muscles and movement. I enjoy watching fights while high. A side effect is it helps me see patterns that I otherwise gloss over when I'm sober. I imagine it could help during training or any movement based activity.

The thread was made now but it is a fair point. We need to save this thread until Merab retires.

Merab did what GSP used to do, which is fight differently in the rematch. Sean trained for old Merab but new Merab pressured him instead of prancing at a distance around the cage.
I’ve said it loads of times. You have to train for the next fight. Not the last fight.

A few examples.

DC working hard to protect his body in the trilogy fight with Stipe. So Stipe just wrestled him against the cage. Stipe only threw a few body shots in the trilogy.

Conor in the trilogy fight with Dustin. Conor was so worried about leg kicks, that he threw ridiculous undisguised kicks. And probably contributed to getting his leg snapped.

Amanda in the rematch with Pena. Pena was crying because Amanda switched stances in the rematch. She actually said that Amanda had to change her gameplan to win. Pena is no Einstein.

Etc, etc, etc..

I've been pretty anti weed most of the time but some guys can smoke a lot of weed and have it not effect them that much. Some people I think it can really fuck over though,

He looked good until he didnt

The fight was competitive, but what was surprising is Merab arguably landing the better shots on the feet.

Sean was understandably trying to strike Merab in the body. This was a reasonable game plan since it drains the tank (although Merab's seems limitless) and Merab can't duck under a strike to the head for the takedown. But multiple times after Sean targeted Merab's body, Merab was able to land a clean counter to Sean's noggin.

Sean has shown he's right up there in terms of being elite. His striking is incredible. He sniped Aljo and made Chito into a punching bag.

But Merab is next level. Highest pressure fighter I've ever watched, and he's able to land enough solid shots to his head to be a threat.

Omalley looked good but Merab is just really good and the worst match up for Omalley. Omalley beats him if Mersb is on a bad day but the match up for Omalley is just bad . Omalley should go to FW . Unless he wants to be a bw gatekeeper ppv main card filler guy.

I thought he looked good, he was defending takedowns well, and landing some good shots. But Merab is just too good a wrestler, and the worst possible matchup for Sean.

I think he should go to FW. Fights with Holloway, Yair, Lopes, and Topuria would be sick.
